Amazon limited the promotion to the first 2 million "thank you"s, a number they exceeded by mid December last year. You can be pretty sure Amazon will pay out the same amount to the drivers with or without your participation. But I don't see this promotion actually updated for 2024 yet. I am not sure that it is active at all right now.

So I pay 0, driver gets 5?

If I had the same driver each time I would participate. But some drivers are just awful, I had one last week leave a package in the rain instead of walking an extra 3 steps and putting it under a covered porch.

On the opposite end, I have a different driver put packages where they are protected from the elements. She even rings the doorbell.

The way this amazon thing works, I can't direct the tip towards the "good" driver.

At the holidays, I tip the good driver myself to say thanks.

As on 14 December 2023, we have received more than 2 million "thank yous", concluding the promotion offering $5 per "thank you" to eligible drivers. You can continue to thank your drivers and we will share your appreciation with them.

You can say thank you, but no $ goes to the driver. It's still nice.

I downloaded the app and did the Thank You. It told me it would tell the USPS thank you for me. I've got a feeling Amazon is not going to share $5 with my mail carrier. Uninstalled.

Amazon's "Thank My Driver," is back. Free to the customer, $5 tip to the most recent delivery driver. "To share your appreciation in the future say
"Alexa, thank my driver" or search 'Thank my driver' on Amazon (web or app)."

What is your source that "it is back?" From everything I have read, both on the link you provided and across the Internet, this deal has been dead for a long time.

Tipping is simply wrong even if it appears to be "amazon" money its still promoting the idea. Unfair to customers and employees, it only benefits business owners. Just pay your employees bonus don't call it tip or thank you

There's no indication that they are continuing this for 2024, so I doubt my driver will get a tip

Just signed up for Prime and my first delivery is late:

Delivery Attempt
Held at Post Office, At Customer Request
Customer has requested the shipment to be held for collection. Please collect your package once available for pick-up.

But we were here and they just forgot the package and didn't want to come back here because they wanted to knock off early yesterday for Thanksgiving.
So they made a fraudulent entry into USPS system.
That's fine but you get no tip.

edit: for people who forgot or are too young to remember, this is called a merit based approach

I live in a small rural town and they just started letting Amazon drivers do delivery. Well they feel the need to use their own map to guide the drivers. Well their maps are so inaccurate a SW address keeps being delivered to SE and they totally ignore the apartment numbers and deliver to a house across town instead. There's an entire town FB page and basically is become a "who has my package?" page. So I can't order anything from Amazon this bf unless I want to try to find it later. I called soon after a delivery and they got a hold of the driver who swore she followed the map but apparently disregarded the entire apartment thing. This is the problem when people blindly follow technology that isn't ready for prime time when they basically turn humans into meat drones who follow instructions blindly without using their brain to realize the machine is wrong. I literally needed to add delivery instructions to use Google maps to find my address when they had to resend my gs24 fe after if went who knows where. The driver who brought it the 2nd time apparently used his Natural Intelligence (NI > AI) and said t the maps Amazon uses are inaccurate.
