It's odd, the only models available are between 15 and 17 inches. Was kinda hoping for a 14 inch deal, but the promo doesn't seem to work on any 14 inch models.

I don't see any 14" precision models listed, discounted or not. Where are you looking?

it looks like Dell didn't start making 14" Precisions again until the generation after what they currently have available at dellrefurbished.com right now (they seem to have up to 11th gen processor laptops, but the 14" precisions didn't start again until the 12th gen chips in models like Precision 3480 or 5470, etc)

Last year, we purchased 2 refurbished Dell laptops from Dell Refurbished (FedEx Recycling). The "Grade A" laptops were separate purchases and both arrived with small signs of wear (case, trackpad, loose port connections).

One started having errors after about 5 months (outside of 90 day warranty). The second unit died completely last week. System board error. It may be possible to pay $150-$300 to have it revived by a specialist who could take it apart and check all connections. (I tried the disconnect battery & reset technique.) The result may not change or it may require a replacement part.

Used laptops are highly YMMV. You can't tell by the outside what abuse they've been through by govt or corporate employees. We've burned almost $600 for no more than one year of ownership.... and you're not buying from Dell, so don't blame them.

I'd recommend purchasing from Dell Outlet instead of FedEx Recycling, or just buy new.

This is probably a wise move. I've made two separate purchases from Dell Refurb, both ended up being defective and were returned/refunded. While I'm sure that the majority of items they sell are good and working, it's probably a lower percentage than you'd get from other vendors.

I agree. The FedEx refurbished process seems poor compared to manufacturers themselves. Loud fans, heat, uncalibrated battery etc.

When did this start?

I bought a Dell refurb back in 2020 and up till this year, worked great.
Now when I press the letter 'o' it comes out oo around 50% of the time.
So 'to' comes out 'too' and 'around' is 'aroound.' Frown
Spell checker catches 'aroound' but not 'too' which makes my posts look amateurish.

Was going to buy another refurb if great coupon but the horror stories in this post makes me want to do Dell Outlet instead

It's a spit shine -- with extra spit, minus the shine.

At least this is an easy fix. You should be able to find a replacement keyboard on ebay for not much money.

I got a Dell refurb and was having issues setting it up. I thought it was me, but then determined it was the keyboard. Since I had just purchased I asked for a battery, per slick deal procedure and a new keyboard. They did not have a keyboard, but provided me a refund so I could purchase a new one on ebay. They were around $20. There are good youtube videos on how to replace them so it might be a inexpensive fix if you are OK with the computer. It does take time to replace and most likely you will need to replace the thermo paste as you need to disassemble a number of pieces to get to the keyboard. I was careful and did not disconnect the motherboard from the monitor, but worked underneath to pull out and replace the keyboard.
