I did some research on Android custom OS for anyone interested in that.

The Amazon Fire HD 8 Tablet 2018, 8th Gen (karnak?) supposedly has a LineageOS custom ROM, but it's an old version based on LinageOS 16/Android 9. It might also require minor hardware mod (shorting some pins) to do the first install. Actually it looks like there's also a LinageOS 20/Android 13 build but it has bugs.

Newer models don't have the boot-loader exploit needed for a full custom OS. There's always Fire Toolbox though.

Removing the amazon crud with Fire Toolbox so I can access google play and utilize my still functioning 2019 Kindle Fire 10 as a Touch Portal device was awesome. And then when I found out about making it a virtual nintendo DS with DraStic it became awesomer. I love my Kindle Fire.

Kindle went out because there's a lot of readers.

The 2021 FIRE HD 10 is the one to get. It has 3gb ram which still sucks but it's such an improvement over the 2gb ram tablets. Anything that has 2gb ram is e-junk.

Just did a quick Google search. Looks like Woot CAN'T be returned to Whole Foods.

FYI, most of these tablets have higher trade-in values with Amazon than what you pay at Woot. For example, the Fire 10 for $15 on Woot has a trade-in value of $30, plus the 20% off coupon.

I would get the HD10, it has a faster processor, bigger and brighter screen.

Keep in mind the Fire HD 8 Plus is better than the regular Fire HD 8.
But the Fire HD 8 Plus 2020 is slower than the 2019 Fire HD10.

the Fire HD8 only valued at $20. Plus you'll get additional 20% off.

Because e-readers are wildly popular and are almost never this cheap, or even anywhere near it. The fire tablets, however, are wildly overproduced and a dime a dozen because of it.
