If you need a cheap tv or monitor, get the 50in Hisense for $120 or even a sceptre tv. This will only give you issues and make you pull your hair out

Probably not as good a TV as this, but could be an option for those with a Micro Center nearby and/or a digital coupon. My store had 5 in stock on a front display.

If you're just going to set it to a certain input and use it as a monitor.... Roku vs FireOs has not mattered for us or clients using these as basic inside signage and other light duty.
General TV usage might be another story, but if you hate it.... Go buy a cheapo Onn/Roku/etc streamer and it'll be miles better at processing anyway.
What were the specific problems you had?
I generally like Roku devices, but even our TVs had issues with certain video formats via Emby/etc and it turned out to be because the built-in stuff is simply too weak. Piping it through a bargain streamer instantly solved all the problems with Live TV pausing and playback, audio delay on more "exotic" formats (Opus 7.1), and a few other very specific issues.

But even some of the better ones like Google TV, Roku, etc. are not great long term on any of these TVs because they are low end and eventually slow down as the apps get bigger in size. The bottom barrel processors, cheap a$$ flash memory, and other components cannot handle this or degrade over time. There are people with Roku TVs that complain about how their TVs failed after an update or became more sluggish over time. I suspect a lot of this is due to the following reasons: 1) The generic updates are designed with very little in mind about the low end processing power of the PCs; 2) apps continue to grow and get bigger, requiring more processing power, more storage; 3) the cheap storage and memory on these TVs degrades as you use, install, and store more things on them. It's best to just avoid "smart" features on $100-$300 TVs.
