You can mitigate this buy running the PS4 version on PS5 for a locked 60fps.
Steam Deck 40hz mode runs it at 40fps as well.

I think I bought this last year on BF at this price and got the PS4 version but couldn't remember exactly why. From what I recall, people said the graphics weren't all that different between the versions either.

Just get the PS5 version. I played the PS5 version on PS5 and wasn't bothered by the frame rate dips at all. I doubt your kid will care either.
