I love Phillips Hue, but this seems like it's roughly 5 times too expensive compared to what else is out there

Light strips are fine, if you can't actually see the strip/LEDs themselves (and can only see the light reflection off a surface). Otherwise just looks like a strip club.

2 different versions. OP's deal is for the light strip plus, while the longer 3m version is for the cheaper Solo version.

Not sure why the downvotes, this is totally true. These are for hiding behind monitors/TVs, etc.

Probably the people who have them hanging out in the open.

I did so (past tense) in my bedroom, but it just looks tacky.

Pro-tip, buy a diffuser channel to make it look better if the strips are going to be out in the open (i.e. a long the corners of the ceiling or a long the floor)

Read the article. Functionally the same, but different connectors, can be cut shorter, doesn't support extension but could possibly diy an extension after cutting.

Worth mentioning, they come with double sided stick to mount. Does ok for the most part. The area that runs thru a corner and over our toaster oven started to come loose so I 3D printed some clips and screwed them to the bottom side of cabinets, and then the strip nustles in

You can get Govee led strip 16ft for 10$ right now, and it's RGBIC. This one is 6ft and not even RGBIC. Please stop giving Phillips your money so they can price their items according to competition. 5 times more expensive for a very inferior product

I got one from Walmart different brand about 3-4 years back 6 feet, still working, I remember paying under $10, I understand that may not be of that quality, and I was not looking for any connectivity with Alexa, probably that the reason of high price
