Yes its locked for 1 year, not sure though if need service for one year to unlock.

I was thinking about trying this with a Razr. Instead of that I just bought the unlocked version at Amazon for $425. I had $450 in credit to use. I have an old T-mobile everything plan with 3 lines for $80.

No need to cancel. It's prepaid. It cancels when you don't pay the second month. Autopay is off by default.

Metro website is really bad, you might just have to wait a few hours or a few days if you get errors or out of stock messages

I have a question, I understand it would be locked for a year but is it locked to the new number or just Metro? Otherwise, if I already have phones on a Metro plan, could I get this with a new number and then just switch phones between an old number and then this one, allowing the new number to cancel after a month?

Meh, Unless i am gonna keep for full year i wouldnt touch MetroPCS at all, it requires 360-days from the date you activated. However, i personally had instances where ebay metro unlock service did succesfully unlocked the phone. I will only take bet for the free phone

It's locked to Metro so you can switch it to a different Metro number and it will work. I'm on Metro and that's how I get new a new phone every couple years.
