Wow, great deal on that 7 channel. I've been very happy with mine. Almost seems worth buying a second, even tho I only have 4 more channels I could power.

I feel like people might be confusing the 7-channel for the Monolith 7/7X. That said, still a good price to get into separates and improve 90% of HT setups.

It's also nice that some premium receivers have pass-thru, pre-amp only modes. Spending $2000 on a pre-processor that doesn't have the same longevity as a comparable class A amplifier is rough.

I have Denon X1500H currently running 5.1.2 - Would the 7 channel be in addition to Dennon or can I replace the Denon with the 7 channel one?

This is a great deal for a 7 channel amp. If I didn't have an Outlaw Audio 7x130 amp, I'd have to grab this one. For comparison, this amp is 37.5 lbs, and the Outlaw's is 61.5 lbs, or 64% more toroidal mass of 44% more wattages, but Monoprice's price is waaaay lower!

Help my thinking here since I have never used an amp with a receiver. If I am doing a 7.2.2 setup, if I went with the 7 channel (I guess mostly based on it not costing as much per channel/minimal upgrade cost) I would probably want to run at least the LCR off the amp, and then the surrounds also off the amp, and the Atmos off the receiver, right? That would be viable?

Your Denon X1500H is a 7.2 receiver but only has pre-outs for 2 channels, so you would have to get a receiver with 7 pre-outs to take advantage of an external amp. I have a Denon X3700H with 7 preamp outputs that connects to my Outlaw 7x amp, and it sounds great for HT.

That makes sense. Thank you for clarifying!

it's not a replacement for an a/v receiver, because afaik it's strictly an amplifier with no room correction capability, can't process dolby audio, etc... i'd also guess that it's nowhere near powerful enough to power a subwoofer.

$2586 will get you a monoprice receiver, but it's oos: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=37887

If your receiver has pre-outs for 7 channels then it's best to run all 7 channels using the amp, and the 2 atmos channels using the receiver's amp. The LCR use the most power, hence you should run those using the amp. I am running 7.2.4 with 7 using the external amp and the 4 atmos using the receiver's, and it sounds great.

It would be even nicer if the big AVR companies would offer several models without amplification for a discount.

Yeah I am trying to buy a receiver around BF and my goal is to get one with pre-outs. Thanks.
