OK, this deal interests me. +1

However, for another 8 GBs of RAM, the HP site offers it for $40. If I go to Crucial's site:
https://www.crucial.com/compatibl...city(-)8GB
An additional 8 GBs of RAM only costs $23.

Did you mean to add some kind of coupon code or something Confused

Also, trying to gauge battery life. @ 41 WHr, it does not seem it will last long w/o a cord..

I think this is a pretty good deal. If you upgrade the RAM to 16mb and the ssd to 512GB it brings it to $519.

Thanks for the tps.

I'd like to remind everyone who has a Chase card there is a Chase Offer that expires in 8 days on 11/30/2024

Earn $50 cash back on your HP purchase when you spend $299 or more, including taxes and after any discounts.

Offer expires 11/30/2024. Offer only valid on purchases made directly with the merchant. Offer valid online only. Offer not valid on purchases made using third-party services, delivery services, or a third-party payment account (e.g., buy now pay later). Offer only valid on U.S. purchases. Payment must be made on or before 11/30/2024.

So the final amount should be
$430-50+23=403+taxes on 452 (37.29 in TX) = proobably around 440 depending on which state you live in.

Also I believe they dropped the price by $20 today as it was 450 yesterday. The $20 flash sale(discount) ends tonight. If you have any kind of EPP you may save a few bucks more on top of the discount above but you may lose the cashback from certain cashback sites. (up to 10% at this moment)

Regarding your Ram query, yes you are correct as these manufacturers always charge higher than the market price for any kind of upgrade, whether memory or storage. If you go with 8GB and planning to add another 8GB, the main issue is that for 8GB, HP sells the laptop in 4GBx2 configuration, not a single 8GB stick. So, you need to get a 8GBx2 kit and resell those 4GBx2 Rams. Most of the folks don't wanna take that hurdle.

For most other models you are right they sell 4GBx2.
But for this particular model the description is:
"8 GB DDR5-5600 MHz RAM (1 x 8 GB)
Included In Price"
So you just need to buy another 8GB module to make it dual channel and 16GB total.
Also for some models like 16z-ag000, the memory is soldered and not upgradable.
I was actually debating between 16z-ag000 and 15t-fd100(this model) but ultiimately bought this one because of the option to upgrade ram for less. (And the flexibilty to upgrade to as much as 64GB in the future.)

Great, in that case, you can just upgrade that manually with cheaper price, if you are comfortable to open the laptop and do it.

For an extra $17 it seems worth it to just have them do it.

Price back up to 450 without EPP (+20) It's the same price as 16z-ag000.
For people who don't want to tinker with laptops I recommend 16z-ag000 instead.
It has upgraded webcam (720p->1080p) that supports Windows Hello face recognition login
and 512GB instead of 256GB disk space. Both upgrades are included in the base price.
However 16z-ag000 is not upgradable so you have to pay the extra 50 to upgrade from 8GB to 16GB ram. Also 16z-ag000 is based on AMD Ryzen 5 8540U, which is very capable but does not have a NPU which the Intel Ultra 5 does.
