My offer is "Spend $500 or more, get $100 back"; with these kinds of offers, does the $500+ have to be before tax? Or just the total charge made on the AmEx card has to be $500 or over?

mine is 100 off 500 so I got the console and a controller, the after tax amount just exceeded $500 to meet the offer requirement. awesome!

it's always total amount billed to to the Amex including tax

Only the total charge matters in my past experience with Amex offers. The cc company is not able to see the before-tax amount in your order

I had the $100 back from $500 at Dell. Just got off a chat with an AMEX rep. He said:

I have checked your account. I see It should be a total of $500 or more at dell.com including taxes.
Let's say your purchase is for $98.00 and there is 2% tax. If merchant post $100.00.
You will get the credit.

His math is a bit off, but whatever is posted to your card (after taxes) needs to be over $500

I did the ps5 with a second controller for a total of $508 after taxes

If you are eligible, there should be one that says something like "Dell.com $100 off $500+ purchase"
