Be wise. Always check the price of replacement toner slash ink cartridges before purchasing a printer. Over the life of the printer your toner is going to cost you more, than the printer itself.

edit: This printer seems reasonable for replacement toner.

There are third party compatible toners as low as $90 for all four in Amazon.

I am tired of ink jets breaking and drying up. At this cost I think this is not bad to try, ordered one.

In a world of shitty printers, this is actually a decent one. I don't think I'll ever go back to inkjet.

Yes the toner is expensive: but you get significantly more pages - hundreds, even thousands - more from a toner cartridge than you do from an inkjet cartridge. And there are third party options available: I've got some in my device right now and they work fine.

Ok printer but the firmware will drive you insane. I've had Brother, Ricoh, Canon and HP and I'm only getting another Brother now. All the others suck.
Hi! Could u recommend a Brother printer with the same specs? Thanks!

Had this model. All aftermarket toner on Amazon suck. It will last you maybe 100 prints before fading and streaking. Don't let most reviews fool you. Finally got rid of it and replaced with an older Color HP Laserjet. Generics on that one is much better. Canon original toner is great but is $350 for a set.

I have M656CDW model bought for same price last year.

You can get it for cheaper than that on Amazon however problem is Canon printer will not recognized the fake toner cartridge. You can go in settings and disable the message.
You will loose ability to see ink level which means you really don't know if you are getting worth of your money

There are some listing claiming toner with display chip - i have not tried it so ymmv
Researching online forum learned that no matter what....

1. Do not update firmware

I have the MF741/743CDW for about 2 years and is used as a business printer. The quality of Canon over a comparable Brother, like the 3770 is similar if not better. Owning both, I'd buy another 741/743 or the one in this post over anything else.

Yes, toner costs, but so does everything else in life. I've messed around with aftermarket toners to save a couple of bucks, ended up making a huge mess in the cartridge tray with toner leaking everywhere. Quality of the aftermarket toner sucked big time. Went back to official toners and haven't looked back. It simply wasn't worth it.

Invest in high-capacity toner is probably the best suggestion, even though it costs as much as the printer itself.

Prime Days I got the MF656Cdw for $15 more. Feeling better about that deal.

Based on my experience I would not mess around with third party toner. A crappy aftermarket toner can destroy your laser printer. The replacement cost of the printer, especially not on sale, is high. Don't play with fire.

Even though toner costs more than ink cartridges, when you do the math, the price per page is less. So people saying the toner costs more than the printer are making an emotional argument rather than a logical one. With many ink jets, the cost of replacing cartridges is also more than the printer. That's just life.

Also factor in inkjets that are not used frequently enough can clog the heads versus toner last last for several years even if you use it occasionally.

Same here. Glad I randomly got this just before COVID so I had something. Once the starter toner gone hated this.

Two generic different brands smears or dots on the page after under 100 pages for the black or cyan.
Really two sets, leak but I'm busy so whatever get another Amazon '4.5 stars' same issue.

I rarely print but when I do now I want it to work. Headache is still sitting at home printing meh.

Shock #2 I hate inkjets but got refurbished 9025e Office jet plus on a gamble and a SD from Best buy online for $100.

This was during HP bad press and I hate them so much, I needed color vs waiting for shared color laser at school.

I gambled that if I never activated or agree to software it would be worth it to solve my headache for 6 months. This was Jan last year. It's been perfect.

Used starter carts to setup printer, then tossed generic in. I've gone through 3 generic sets. I've even had it in non use all summer and it's still working on my classroom and new generic on the way. 1600 pages color 2K black $30-40.

Never available since and generics brands randomly change but if grab another it was even up to $150 again. Perhaps keep eyes open for similar model never install using full HP software just manual setup on macos and Windows iPhone n android

Bunch of nonsense! Been buying non-OEM toner powder for various printers for some 30 years of owning laser printers and never had any issues. Some toner powder refill kits on some printers require chips but other than that, never once had any issues with 3rd party cheap toner refill kits on Canon, HP, Brother, etc. I prefer the types where you melt/drill a hole in the original OEM toner cartridge and refill it with powder instead of the entire non-OEM toner cartridge replacement.

I would not recommend replacing the OEM Canon toner cartridges with after market cartridges that may not last or work well over time. Highly recommend using toner refill powder with chips!

Found some selling for about $35 on AliExpress for this printer: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32...4itemAdapt

Have this printer, I use aftermarket toner, yes you can see who the ink levels, yes they will start to Dot And smear after a few hundred pages. Can print on both sides of the page which is cool.

What do people need printers for?
printer
noun
print·er ˈprin-tər
: one that prints: such as a a person engaged in printing
: a device used for printing especially : a machine for printing from photographic negatives
: a device (such as an inkjet printer) that produces printouts

But seriously, I still print labels and the occaisional greeting card. I think most people fit in that category. Infrequent use, hence why I want to move away from my old Brother inkjet MFC that is constantly throwing errors on the input tray (sensor bad).

Replacing a semi-working inkjet with a laser color is cheaper in the long run. I have to run the clean cycle about every time due the infrequent use as well as some of the cartridges clog and dry out before I have a chance to finish them.

I am concerned about the reviews. I've had Brother printers for the last 20 years no issues other than current one throwing paper feed errors.
