IMO everyone should do themselves a favor and do a blind test against everything and see just how good your palate is. I can almost guarantee most won't notice the difference between grind size, brew style and method when comparing top reliable techniques. The margin of utility is tiny unless you're a professional taste tester. Most aren't after the additional 5% flavor for double the effort.

It probably cost less than $5 to manufacture BUT since they have a patent on the design. They can charge what they want...
There are knocks on Ali Express but I've heard they not worth the trouble.
