Dreame X40 Ultra is also on sale $999 plus 5% if you use code 05BFCMX40.

On papers it's better than the L40 but in testing it seems that the L40 is better although that might be due to software updates?

I've never heard of this brand? How does this compare to the Roborock deal from Costco?

I bought the L10s a year ago and it has been one of the best home investments I have made. the only nitpicks I have are that I have to make sure no cords are in the way because it does not do a very good job of avoiding wires. I don't know if the updated L20 or L40 are better but other than that it works as advertised. Like any robot vacuum they are not very effective in tight corners and they do need a decent amount of clear space to navigate back to their home base. It has been working with absolutely no issues for over a year now in my home and works as well today as it did the day I purchased it.
My house has only one dog that does not shed so I cannot speak to extreme cases where there will be lots of pet hair etc.

I purchased this unit last year for about 1k. I keep it on my main floor and it cleans the kitchen dining, and family rooms. It does great, I think the base station is very well designed. The tanks for emptying dirty water and refilling with clean water are nice and heavy duty. The auto empty bags last us a good while before needing to be changed. I add a drop of bleach to the empty dirty water container which keeps it from ever going nasty.

The app is really easy to use. It creates a map of your home and you can easily set up virtual borders to delineate different rooms and rugs. There are numerous options for cleaning, I have mine set to detach nop pads when cleaning carpet. It reattaches them to go over the hard floors.

We don't have any pets so no comments on how well it does with pet hair or avoiding pet messes but supposedly the camera can detect and avoid such things. My wife has long hair, so does my daughter and it doesn't really get tangled. In the year we've had it I've cleaned the roller maybe twice.

I've had some other non auto empty robots in the past and wouldn't do that again after having this guy.

Dreame and Roborock are owned by the same company ( Xiaomi ) I still can't figure out why they created competing brands , but it seems to me like Dreame gets more of the new "trial" type features and Roborock gets those if they are proven effective with Dreame .

This is not true. Neither of them are owned by Xiaomi. They both make white label cleaning bot for Xiaomi, I guess that why you got this impression.
RoboRock stopped supplying Xiaomi since 2021 while Dreame is still contracting for Xiaomi till now.

The costco Roborock 499$ deal is good for basic use. But it is missing some useful features that L20 Ultra has.
A fair comparison is the RoboRock QRevo Pro (will be 599$ on BlackFriday) vs L20 Ultra. They are the same level of features except that roborock pro features warm water mop washing but hey, Dreame L20 is 30$ cheaper;
On a side note, RoboRock is a much more established brand here in the states, it is better than Dreame on overall innovation, quality, market share, customer support and accessories availability. Dreame is just coming in, it will take some time for them to build the services network.

Ahh yes my mistake for trusting google AI.
Although the companies are separate entities, it looks like Xiaomi is a major investor in both (and I suspect a lot of control) and as you said both companies supply white label for Xiaomi.

Roborock says: In September 2014, we received the investment from Xiaomi and became a member enterprise of Xiaomi ecological chain.

Dreame: In late 2017, Dreame became part of the Xiaomi Ecological Chain

Funny that they use the exact same wording to describe the relationship.

I ordered this instead of the Qrevo S.

UPDATE: 12/6/24 - Very happy with the L20 Ultra. This unit works better than I expected. Only criticism is the app is not intuitive. App has all the right features, but takes some time (and a bit of trial & error) to customize the map to do exactly as you wish for each room. For instance, I don't want the robot to carry mop pads during vacuum tasks. I found that partitioning a floor into individual rooms works best, as carpeted rooms can then be set to vacuum only. Also love the feature of prioritizing room order. This way, if scheduling a full house (floor level) cleaning, the hardwood/tile rooms get done last and final task is mopping, where robot returns to base to wet & pickup pads. Important to note, this will prevent wasted soap, which reduces cost of consumables.

Also, for my home with only 400 sq/ft of hard flooring, the fresh & waste water containers are way too big. They would only need refill/emptying once a month. Waste water will get nasty smelling after a week, so I empty & rinse mine after weekly mopping.

And finally, if possible, I recommend using distilled or filtered water to avoid long term issues from calcium and other buildup in the robot & base pump. Waterwise.com is what I use for 25 years, is all I drink (you'll be shocked at the poisons in today's tap water. Just say'in.

That's the one I've been eyeing, now that Dreame and Narwal came into play, it's up in the air.

I have one of these. It works well enough. Mopping is actually pretty good, gets alot of grime in the water. Vacuuming I only use on hardwood, Ive had two robot vacs and they both just turn dog hair on the carpet into balls that they leave behind.

The base is big, like need to plan where it will go big. And I think the map setup stinks compared to Roomba, took a lot of work to set up rooms in an open concept house. Mine also has a couple spots where it gets confused in my house...wide open spaces where it thinks it is boxed in.
