Some sites are giving 5% back up to $50, and Gamestop Pro giving another 2% reward points, if you have GameStop credit card then another 4% back.

$1699.99 - $50 - 2% - 4% = $1547.99

I got one extra unopened and don't know what to do with it. What's the safest way to sell it?

I bought mine off Facebook market place. Met up at the police station. It was new in the box sealed with the receipt for warranty. Got it at a great price.

5080 is around the corner. Will be just as powerful at 1000 bucks.

Edit. and is pcie 5 so you can run a CPU lane for an SSD as well.
After the new 60% tariff on China imports and the proposed GPU tax to tap the surge in AI business you're lookin at over 2 grand easily for a 5080 if the MSRP is $1000. Next-gen is going to hit the wallet like an intercontinental missile.

Nvidia is a Taiwanese company. Does the tariff still apply?

It depends where their cards are being fabricated and shipped out from. If it's all done in Taiwan then the tariff will apply since Taiwan is part of China -but if they move their fabs to India like some other companies are doing then the tariff won't apply if everything ships from India. Moving fabs will cost millions of dollars and we'll feel that with increased prices on cards either way -it's a bit of a lose-lose situation unfortunately.

Adjusted for inflation the 1080ti's launch price of $699.99 would be $906.32 today.

https://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpic...ar2=202410

Then keep in mind that the 4090's die uses significantly more silicon than the 1080ti's. The 1080ti's die size was 471mm² while the 4090 is 609mm² and also requires a dramatically larger cooler. The larger the die-size the less yield you get on a silicon wafer -meaning you have a larger amount of 4090's that are defective and can't be sold as 4090's. Larger die size means it uses more silicon -and silicon is expensive.

Ultimately this means that the 4090 has to be priced high to be profitable. I reckon they could sell it as low as $1200 and still have good enough margins to justify making the card. They're definitely marking up the price -it's just not as big of a mark-up as comparing the price to the 1080ti's launch price makes it out to be.

Bottom line? If you care about egregious price markups just buy an AMD card. Good 7900XTX models are around $840 right now and provide 83% the performance of a 4090 at 4k in non-ray-traced gaming according to Tomshardware's GPU hierarchy chart.

Inflation is irrelevant and you vastly underestimate the profit margins from Nvidia's GPUs. Nvidia is a trillion dollar company. Even if they priced their cards more reasonably, they would still make a profit.
