350 nits screen. Not the 500 nits one. Please correct.

I was excited to see the 500 nits screen in a Costco deal …
Why is it great? For gaming, the 4060 is an entry level card. Further the i9 is wasted without better GPU. For work productivity you dont need the GPU or i9. The only thing great about this is its Costco return policy... But I think they changed their warranty on electronics a few years ago... not sure, you would need to verify.
If you want gaming, I have a feeling you can get something with a 4070 at the same price.
Just do a google search as there are a lot of reddit comparisons of 300 nit vs 500 nit screen brightness from users who have ACTUAL PERSONAL EXPERIENCES of the two. Even the 165hz vs 240hz refresh rates.

DO NOT TRUST all of the comments here as this is a bargain search site and A LOT of commenters, I am NOT saying all, do not even have first hand experience of what they are talking about. Also, there is some BIAS here as this site gets commissions from specific store sale being posted. It is also very easy for staff or personnel of small stores and especially ebay items, to thumbs up and vote down those that compete with their posts.

Bought one in store yesterday after some quick comparisons to similarly priced laptops. Seemed like a good deal for the money. Cons appear to be battery life and "meh" nits.

I got the 16" 5i pro 16" QHD+ 240Hz, i7-14700HX, RTX 4060, 32 gig ram, 1tb 500 nit screen for 1300 after tax.. is this a better deal than what I got given some of the build differences between the two, namely the screen nits and the cooling?

Seems like a great deal. Any reason not to pull the trigger?

I like it but it is heavy. Then again, I don't really need a gaming laptop, just a laptop with lots of RAM and disk space.

I'm in the same boat. I just need a fast machine that's a little future proof with a graphic card that's good enough to run 2 external 2k monitor.

When you say "For work productivity you dont need the GPU or i9" - What about if you are stock trading with multiple monitors and price charts spread out all over with dynamic information constantly being updated? I'm not so concerned about the GPU b/c I don't game, but I assumed the fastest processor would be best for me because of the stock trading applications (eSignal), but I'm no tech expert.

I bought this when I saw it on sale and am very happy with the purchase so far. All other previous deals under ~$1200 were 16GB RAM / 500gb / lower Hz screen.
for context, I do game but don't play the latest and greatest (probably POE 2 when it comes out) so I don't need a super high end graphics card. I do need the faster processor and GPU time to time for architectural modeling work + some live rendering + editing.
I think this is the best value laptop in the current black friday season for someone that doesn't need super high end GPU (4070+) for the highest FPS and 500 nits for the screen (lol) (I have a 34" DP screen set up next to my laptop).

A 20 year old CPU can do what you want... your problem will be memory and monitor outputs depending on if you prefer lots of separate screens or a few high res screens. I prefer using 6 screens. Its cleaner and easier to work with. But you will need a GPU with 3 outputs (the ones that have more run stupidly expensive for no reason). Then I added a USB to VGA thing that added 3 more outputs for like $50. Perfectly fine for monitoring servers and for stock stuff.

I used to run 7 monitors, but now it's just my laptop and one 50" TV as an external monitor. I've been trading for 25yrs, I've done the 7 screens before, was information overload for me. Can you explain what you mean by I will need a GPU with 3 outputs, I don't really understand. Right now my charting program (eSignal) will have a slight lag when I try to pull up information from a new stock symbol (like when I am clicking on it and it forces the program to load all of the available information for that symbol). My #1 goal is to try and get rid of that momentary lag so it pulls up all the information almost seamlessly. Not sure what I need to upgrade to do that

Would love to see the laptop that you reference with a 4070, i9, 32GB RAM for no more than $100 to this deal.

Its been a while since I bothered to check, but can a 4070 cap an i7 or equal Ryzen? You would need to verify. In general however, it doesnt need to match the specs of the laptop above to get better gaming performance. For gaming you are almost always better off with the better GPU and you need to make sure it isnt power capped (some laptops limit GPU power).
As for seeing it, I saw many in 2024 in the $1k range. Just not right now. Right now you can get a 4070 with i7 or Ryzen and 16gb for $1100 on Amazon. Thats all I checked. Im sure you can do better if you tried and of course, cyber monday is a thing as is Christmas especially if this years retail performance is not good.
