look up lofta, just did it last year. Paid about $150 oop for the home test. Pretty smooth process, you do a quick preinterview with a PA/MD, they send out a kit. you send it back and depending on the results you schedule a quick call with a sales person and they send you the rx. You can then take it anywhere or shop at lofta for a cpap. They will also PM other prices if you find anything cheaper. The whole process probably took about 2 weeks for me, from getting the first consultation to having my cpap in hand.
Do you snore like a freight train do you awake in the middle of the night gasping for air then you might need it. Schedule yourself a sleep study quickly, if left unchecked can lead to heart issues, reduced life expectancy
If you think you snore and aren't getting a good nights sleep get a cheap digital recorder and record yourself sleeping. I did and it was scary. Scheduled a sleep study next day and have been using a cpap ever since.

Thanks to Slickdeals and OP for this. A family member was using some CPAP machine as they have really bad sleep apnea. They lost their insurance the company took the machine back. Asked them if we can just purchase, they said $2500.If we buy this, would we need some one from any medical offices or anything? I would really appreciate any insight or help here.
I guess just ask for the prescription from the doctor that give the prescription for the return CPAP.

For most insurance, you pay at least this price or more before you can own a CPAP.

Order from Lofta the sleep study test. It's under $200 (look for coupons).
Apple Watch version 10 or Ultra 2 detects Sleep Apnea.
It detected my sleep apnea and alerted me. Verified by a sleep study.
Amazing stuff.

The 11 has auto on / off. Makes usage easier you just put the mask on and it senses your breathing and turns on. I have a young kid and not having to reach over with him on me was tremendously helpful

any idea how long you have to submit rx after order. sleep study done 2 weeks ago. i chose to do follow up in office (60 bucks as i already hit deductible). They said they only send order to DME after 2nd study where I sleep there wearing a cpap and they adjust pressures. sounds like BS as I already have study done saying I need it. basically Im about 2 weeks out before I'll ahve actual prescription.

Resmed is the brand to buy for cpap machines. Respironics had the whole fiasco of the materials inside the machine blowing black shit out of the machine after a period of time.

Resmed hasn't had anything like that reported that I am aware of.

Things like ramp up, exhale detection, auto start have been on most models made in the past 10 years.

The ramp starts out at lower pressures and over some period of time it will reach the pressure you were diagnosed with as being therapeutic. You do not want to use machines with the pressure too high as it'll give you another set of issues to deal with.

Exhale detection the machine stops blowing full force so it doesn't feel like it's trying to smother you.

And auto start is it detects you breathing and will start. I've found auto off doesn't work if you lay the mask down in a way where air flow is restricted...it thinks you're still wearing it.

Mask type and fit is super important to being successful with these machines.

And you'll want a humidifier otherwise there is a good chance you end up with nose bleeds...

Also used distilled water...less build up on the machine and you can smell the chemicals in the water as the humidifier does its thing.

And clean the tube mask and water chamber with dish soap by hand at least once a week. I'll usually just stick everything in a tub after taking it apart, out a little dish soap in and then fill it up and let sit. empty and fill it up again to get rid of the soa0 as much as possible..run water down the tube.

Then hand dry the chamber and hang the mask and tube up to dry.

Once you get a couple masks and tubes, this is less of a pain. Getting the tubes dry is almost impossible in a day due to how they are made...so can wash ahead and give them longer to dry.

blowing air through the tubes with no water in the machine dries them pretty quickly

Prepping for a roadtrip tomorrow to Baja Illinois (almost Kentucky) for Turkey Week.
0.7 AHI last night with RESMED 11.
AHI will probably spike with the extended family drama.
Happy Holidays!

My toddler uses the AirCurve 10 bipap which doesn't appear to be on sale. I'd love to be able to buy one straight up (rather than pay monthly for it via insurance)
Does anyone know if the bipap models ever get big discounts like this? I'm pretty new to the cpap world.
I use a Resmed AirCurve 10 Vauto bipap, and I have bought 3 of them off FB Marketplace in perfect condition with fewer than 500 hours- 2 of them had less than 200 hours. The most I paid for one was $350.

People get them paid for by insurance and they don't use them for a variety of reasons, so the resale market is a buyer's bargain.

My dme place is making me "rent for 3 months before I get to purchase for 550 (bc ins only covers 50% for me). Ive been trying to sleep with one for a month now and I feel more tired with it than before and wake up with the worst dry mouth ever, even with the humidifier. full face mask, and by is it nosy when that pressure kicks in. 16psi, the pfffffff out the mask vent holes... but I my kids are happy its no longer a hurricane in the house.
