I got one from Amazon just now for under $5

If you're not competitive just get one of the sticker less speed cubes under $10. The rubik cubes have a horrible amount of friction.

In 1982 I saw the Cube contest on That's Incredible. I had never seen one before. So I drove my bike through the slush to buy one. I bought one and that is all I did for 3 or 4 weeks until I figured it out.
A little over 10 months later I was on That's Incredible for the next year's contest. It was a very cool time for me. After the airing, everyone knew who I was in my area.
Back then the cubes sucked compared to today's cubes. I am sure this one sucks - stiff and no cut corners.. All Rubik's Cube branded cubes suck.
My kids buy cubes for $1 for their Cube Class they run. These are 10X better than what we had.
Unless you are focused on speed and are under 15 seconds, the $1 cube is fine.
