I listened to all of these on audiobook and the narrator (Nigel) was hilarious. This author is truly the king of ridiculous, fun humor and a fun adventurous story that can be appreciated at any age 12 years old plus.

I listened to all of these on audiobook and the narrator (Nigel) was hilarious. This author is truly the king of ridiculous, fun humor and a fun adventurous story that can be appreciated at any age 12 years old plus.

These books are simply the best for any age group. I will mention the current available audiobooks have been re-recorded for licensing or other reasons and I greatly prefer the older versions with Nigel. He's so good.

I believe they don't have the original recordings of several of the older books (say the first 10 or so), and the versions that do exist are sub-par compared to modern recordings. That said, I generally prefer the original narrators too (I think there are two). Though maybe it's because I "grew up" listening to the originals.

Of these, the best one to jump in with is probably Mort, and Reaper Man is probably the best book (though Feet of Clay is up there). Mort is the start of the "Death" sub-series that Reaper Man also belongs to.
The books I would usually recommend as jumping in points to the series ("Guards! Guards!" or "Small Gods") are not on sale, but they are excellent books.

Of these I'd say Mort is the strongest but there is no wrong choice here.

100% !!! Mort was my intro to Discworld and perfect place to jump in. Reaper Man is excellent. I love all the ones with Death and Susan; they are my favorite. The ones with Nightwatch are a close second. I've read the whole series all and own most of them as hard copies.

I've only read a few Discworld books so far, and so far, Small Gods is my favorite. Clever idea with great, funny execution.

The Death books go:
  • Mort
  • Reaper Man (this is on sale and is next in sequence, so buy it!)
  • Soul Music
  • Hogfather
  • Thief of Time
Mort and Soul Music are solid; Reaper Man, Hogfather, and Thief of Time are excellent. You've probably bumped into quotes from them at various points without knowing it; Death himself has a lot of good lines.
