Dysons seem to have great longevity if you don't abuse them, though. I have a V7 Fluffy that's almost 5 years old now, it's been great since about half my floors are hard flooring, but I've wanted a carpet motor head because I do still have some carpet.. some observations side-by-side:
V7 Fluffy's head is still great at hard floors, but the new V15 detect head is on a whole other level - it's shorter/lighter/more compact so it can fit into tighter spaces, and it's hard to overstate how useful the laser is in spotting debris on hard floor. It's also just a satisfying effect as you go along - like a damp sponge cleaning a chalkboard. Makes you want to clean more, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
The new laser detect 'fluffy' head works fully & perfectly fine with the older V7
Carpet: V7 fluffy without a motorhead was obviously not super useful on carpets, loose surface debris, sure.. deep clean, absolutely not. V15 is on a whole other plane of existence, pretty sure the carpet motor head on it is more effective than my old plug-in Dyson Ball stand-up vac.
The new carpet motor head from the V15 does not work with the older V7.
Small motor brush: Old V7 one worked fine, new corkscrew head seems more aggressive and it's apparently great at rejecting hair/string/fur/etc. tangles
Crevice tool: This V15 @ BB comes with the lighted tool. Light doesn't work when used with the V7.
'Fancy tech' - V15 wins hands down.. with its screen and debris sensor, you get more information (incl a 'countdown timer' for the battery) and the vac itself can adjust power based on the debris it's actively picking up
I have cleaned a bit more with it since I posted in that thread, and it's been very effective. The carpet motor head & suction really does seem even more effective than my old wired Dyson Ball. Works well for stairs with a 'single pass' too.
As for 'bonuses' buying from Dyson directly? They've sometimes bundled additional tools in the past, but don't appear to be doing so right now.
