That's a very good deal, and it is the wide-format version too. I have the normal format 8500 variant, and I paid $500 and that was a sale price.

This is a good price for a great printer. I've got one of these my wife uses to make crafts and stickers and so forth with.

Is something like this up to the task of printing thousands of color labels for a business? Wanting to upgrade away from the thermal printer to get better labels on my products.

Probably, but this is still considered a consumer printer so I wouldn't expect it to last as long as one of the pro Epson eco tank photo printers. The pro ones also use pigment ink so the print won't fade in the sun like this will.

This doesn't have any of the HP issues... The printer phoning home to HP HQ, excluding cartridges, etc. True?

Also how good is it for printing photos? Mostly black & white but some color as well.

It's a pretty good printer especially at this price but, I'm on my third one in two years. I use it for lots of full color printing on heavier stock. I would absolutely recommend getting a warranty. The ink cost savings are great but, mechanically it is.. finicky Smilie

I hate this printer. Granted I'm using Canon photo paper so it doesn't have a profile to go with it, but even using Qimage's profile for the canon paper it still has a terrible time printing colors correctly. I probably should buy some paper that this printer has a profile for, but I regret giving away my canon pro-100 that printed color temperature perfectly.

Epson prints very cool on my papers and no amount of settings changes has been able to correct the temperature warmer on the prints to match my color calibrated monitor.

It also does not handle borderless printing very well and I've had to deal with a heavy clog that finally fixed after several unclogging prints from Qimage software.

Nothing but problems with this printer. Scanner has worked great though.

Yes . I just did that today ! 499 minus $100 for the trade in . They print you a coupon there for the trade it and apply it towards your purchase. If you purchase the printer for a store pick up , which is what I did , you will need to do a return and then buy it again at the store .
