Now that our kids are older/more responsible, we generally get glasses from Costco - $150ish will get you a pair with all the bells and whistles and they include a one time repair. Better than $400-600 at the opthamologist. Given all that downward pressure on prices I am surprised the opticians haven't been forced to come down to the real world.

The frames vary of course. Not being able to try them on is a negative, and you better know what width/length/bridge works for you. I've had some duds, but the frames I order now are $12 and have held up as well as anything I've gotten elsewhere.
That said, there is something to be said about actually going to an optometrist and having a proper PD taken and proper fit. There is more to buying glasses than PD and Rx - the glasses have to fit your head, meaning they are only good for certain widths. You can buy a pair that fits your PD and Rx but they will be too small and hurt your temples, or too big and you'll look like a toddler. Also, Zenni quality is not nearly the same as a decent opto shop. Now read what I am writing - it's up to the individual person to determine if the value is there for their money. For my kids specifically, Zenni glasses don't seem as durable - screws come loose easier, temple arms come loose easier, the general fit and finish isn't as good. IF you're a kid and losing or seriously breaking glasses a couple times a year then it doesn't matter.
They didn't tell me getting a pair of semi aviator style prescription sunglasses with a -6.5 prescription was going to result in super thick lenses at the sides even with 1.67 index as compared to my regular glasses of 1.74. If I had known this I wouldn't of have gotten them and now I can't return.
I also ordered a super wide plastic glasses and they didn't tell me that my wide super wide face would still be not wide enough because the legs of the sunglasses keep spreading every time I wear them.
edit: These rims fit fine but with their original fake lenses installed, Now with the prescription lenses, the frame doesn't have any curve to them and the legs spread out to the point it will fall off very easily.
I bought 3 pairs of glasses and an extra pair of frames, spent $500 plus and they were annoyed I was asking them questions.
