Deal Details
The EM-Smart One fiber laser engraver is currently available for $1,399 during the Black Friday sale, with a regular price of $2,599. Using the coupon code "NEW" at checkout gives an additional $100 discount, resulting in a final price of $1,299.

This fiber laser engraver can perform deep engraving and marking on various materials, including metals and plastics. It is as far as I know one of the lowest priced fiber lasers available, yet still quite a bit more expensive than most diode laser engravers. So it's mainly an option for those who can utilize its capabilities for income-generating projects. Unlike diode lasers, which struggle with metal engraving, and CO2 lasers, which cannot mark metals at all, fiber lasers can engrave all kinds of metal and also do finer details and depth engraving, like for example on coins. There are several reviews on YouTube of the EM-Smart One.
The EM-Smart One uses a Q-switched laser source, which is effective for standard engraving tasks but does not offer the adjustable pulse width capabilities of MOPA lasers.

Specifications:
  • Laser Type: Fiber laser (Q-switched)
  • Output Power: 20W
  • Marking Speed: 0-10,000 mm/s
  • Standard Marking Field: 110 x 110 mm (4.33 in x 4.33 in)
  • Maximum Marking Height: 90 mm
  • Laser Wavelength: 1064 nm
  • Repeat Accuracy: ±0.002 mm
  • Cooling Method: Air cooling
  • Lifespan: 100,000 hours
  • Weight: 8.5 kg (18.7 lbs)
  • Dimensions: 370 x 258 x 505 mm
  • Power Supply: DC24V
  • Power Consumption: ≤160 W
  • PC Connection: USB cable
  • Applicable Materials: Metal, plastic, leather, slate, stone, rubber, coated wood

These are interesting machines, I once saw a similar model engraving a metal business card in 2 seconds. Just a short brrrr and it's done. But too expensive as a toy.

This is a fiber laser, so the wavelength is different from a CO2 or diode laser. Fiber lasers are not suited for cutting wood, it's not related to power but rather depends on the wavelength of the laser light. The main advantage of a fiber laser like this is that it's able to engrave and even deep engrave metal. CO2 lasers have pretty much no effect on metal at all.
So summarize it:
Diode lasers: Compact, cheap, suited for engraving and cutting wood, non-transparents plastics, can engrave only anodized aluminum or stainless steel and no other metals, not suited for cutting metal.

CO2 lasers: Usually big (CO2 laser tube, water chiller), even better and faster for cutting wood, can engrave transparent plastics, no effect on metal.

Fiber lasers: Can engrave all kinds of metal, plastic. Poor effect on wood.

Also there is a difference between cartesian and galvo lasers with regard to the movement mechanism. This is a galvo laser, which is fast and precise, but has not a very large work area.
