I just bought 2 8TB for $169 each because Capital One Shopping app told me I'd get 30% off!
That cashback better show up in the 3 months it takes to get a credit.

Slickdeal lesson here: DO NOT USE CAPITAL ONE SHOPPING app!! It's a scam and they don't guarantee anything!!

The price per TB is ok but I wanted larger drives. Holding out for 14TB drives.

Be careful this is ends in ZZ. My qnap only supported the ZX version. So please make sure you check the full part number. This has the smaller cache FWIW

It shows up if it's valid a day or two later. It's usually pretty good and some sites get insane rebates. Ive had the same experience with all the cash back sites where a shopping trip doesn't get recognized for whatever reason. Just as long as you have use for the gift cards.

If I buy an external enclosure, is this going to be better than the WD Elements external drive on the other deal: https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/1026939 ?

I bought these WD standard Red drives with the 64MB cache to put in my NAS when they came out in 2015. These drives are slow and I have since upgraded to larger 7200 RPM WD Red Pro drives. I wouldn't buy them other than for archive storage.

Compatibility only means QNAP/WD have tested the drive and confirmed it supports all functionality the QNAP offers. Even if a drive is not on the compatibility list (https://www.qnap.com/en-us/compatibility/) doesn't mean the drive won't work in your NAS. My current NAS has a couple of WD40EFZX in it despite them not being on the list. They work fine and everything shows up without a problem (SMART and WDDA work).

I agree. It is hard to imagine that a 3.5-inch hard drive is incompatible with NAS. Is there a lack of theoretical support? Unless the physical interface is incompatible, NAS is a small computer consisting of a CPU, motherboard, and memory. I have never heard of a system being picky about hard drives!

Thiese new drives are not slow, just slower than 7200 rpms. You could still easily saturate a 1gbit link with these. Some folks like me prefer the lower noise levels.

WD red plus are lower rpms till 8TB. 10TB and higher they're 7200.
