Potential stupid question incoming...

This 5000w generator outputs 30a @120V via a twist-lock outlet. (Though, 5000w @120V is ~42a)

The much cheaper 3500w generator outputs 30a @120V via a twist-lock outlet (3500w @120V is ~30A)

The 3500w generator will be slightly quieter while its smaller engine will use less gas(which in a long outage can be pretty critical)

The question: Why buy this one instead of the more efficient one for $200 less?

I believe that other one you are talking about isn't dual fuel and can't run on propane.

You were on the right track with the first calculation. This would output max 3600w via the 30a 120v outlet. Leaving whatever is left of the running watts (~3900w total) usable by the other outlets on the unit.
The 5000 has a larger tank, longer runtime, heavier, remote start, slightly louder, more running watts (3000 vs 3900)

Oh yeah and dual fuel like above said

The lack of 240v was deal breaker for me. If 240v is needed look at the Sam's age max for 799. Great deal.

Yeah, that's a bummer.
But the Sam's Club one has pretty bad efficiency at almost twice the consumption of this one. Other than that it checks all the boxes

Don't forget that propane is not as energy dense as gas so you will lose a significant amount of wattage when running on propane

Looks like 3900 watts gas/3600 watts propane.

Are you concerned about the reliability of the Genmax from Sam's?

Also, it's fuel efficiency is pretty bad…

Any other good 240v options?

I bought a 3500 and have been using it a few days, after going to the store and looking at the 5000 it makes me wish I would have just bought the bigger one. It looks like it has better build quailty, better wheels, built in pull out handle. I read one review where the 5000 actually uses less fuel at idle than the 3500.
