That said, the Deck does have a massive and active community, so any problem you have will be documented somewhere else. Valve also partneredwith iFixIt and repair parts are readily available.

The OLED also has an insanely longer battery life, much better screen (especially for games that are colorful or very dark) and actually gets slightly better FPS in AAA titles. But if you are mainly a gamer who plays older titles, side scrollers, etc all of that might not matter to you. For me the double to triple the battery life between the LCD and OLED was worth the upgrade alone.
*there were many other smaller improvements between models but not as noteworthy.
Also because you aren't running windows things like punk buster and other antichest won't work locking you out of tons and tons of games like say battlefield series or rising storm Vietnam
It sucks that a lot of multiplayer games don't support it due to anti-cheat, but then again not everyone is into them and would be better to play competitively on a proper pc rig anyway

At the same time, it's a secondary gaming device to both my PS5 and gaming desktop. If your primary or only gaming device, that might be another consideration.
On the flipside, it's also hard to ignore the Ally X in comparison to the steam deck, OLED. Similar battery life, better performance, a 120 Hz screen, and no compatibility issues with multiplayer games.
Personally, at this point, I'd have a hard time spending over $500 on one of these devices given it's likely that a Z2 chip will be dropped early next year that in theory to provide a decent uplift, depending if it includes some of the RDNA4 updates

it's the reason they are always so cheap, the non-Z1E version never made sense in the first place
Bazzite is pretty sick though.

Now...I kinda want to see how low the the Ally Z1E get discounted after the CES or just wait for 2.0 and 3.0 versions of the portables at this point. Feels like early days still and usually you get pretty good jumps as products get refined. And yet...my frugality keeps on meaning I don't actually get one of these bad boys to mess with. I love slickdealing; I hate slickdealing.
Anywho, it's sadly a pass for me. The market is far too kind to this noble product.
