*cons: you have a fire on a cool night to get warm by a fire, but all the heat goes up, it doesn't radiate out the sides like old school cheap firepits. You will be cold, your wife will complain, the kids will cry. Obvious one here, it's quite expensive. I got mine at a sale price and still paid too much. It's not *really smokeless. It's smokes quite a bit when first starting it up and you'll still be dodging smoke for the first 30 or so minutes. It burns through wood much faster than a normal pit, because of the higher heat it generates(which goes straight into the air, not out the sides to keep you warm, remember?) There's too much post fire work, you can't just dump a cup of water on it when you're done. You're supposed to let it burn down then cool off, then cover it. It feels like whoever invented this has never even built a backyard fire. BUT they solve all these little problems that come up with extra accessories for you to buy. Kills your grass? Buy a ring that raises the pit 3" off the ground. Don't want to wait for it to cool and then it starts raining overnight and gets your ash all gooey? Buy a lid. Don't want to store it in your bedroom? Buy a weather cover. Not getting enough heat from the sides? Buy a heat deflector!
*final thought: Solo makes fire pits that look cool. That's it. It doesn't do a good job on the core fire pit function of keeping you warm. Do yourself a favor and buy the cheap open side fire pit from your local home improvement warehouse, or the Amazon basics one. Any of these will cost you a fraction of the solo stove and you won't need to buy 5 additional things to get it to perform it's sole purpose

I looked into getting one years ago but could never justify the cost.
for JUST the Bonfire heat deflector.
i'm sure you know this, but you're proving their point.

We have have two of these (the biggest one and this one) and love them. If you don't want one because they are too expensive, or they are not smokey enough, or they are made better with add-ons that cost more money, then these are not the fire pits you are looking for.
