I thought it was used too until I received it, but it was brand new and only the box was opened. I already have the XM4 but it's only good for listening to music. I work in an environment with loud white noise in the background, so XM5's superior ANC and MIC were perfect for my needs.

These are great for travelling, have a pair I picked up open box through an Amazon warehouse deal a few years ago. Use them often and the noise cancelling is insanely good on these. On a plane the engine and ambient noise just drop to almost non-existent even if you aren't playing any audio.

I've had the xm4 and then passed those onto my wife when I picked up some xm5s on a deal. These are amazing and make flights so much nicer. I also use them almost every night when my wife goes to sleep earlier than me and I BT them to my firestick and keep enjoying my shows or audio book. They have great sound with good bass and a long life battery. You won't be disappointed in these. I also didn't notice much if any difference in the xm4 and xm5s fwiw.
