We also have a Nespresso Vertuo Machine. Pods are a little over a dollar a piece, but all the variables are removed and you get a consistently great shot every time, and it's much quicker. Lavazza espresso pods are on sale right now for $.40. Can't speak to the Lavazza machine or their pods, but the variables should all be removed with them, too, so it should be very consistent.
Bottom line: I don't think you will save much money on coffee and you might find yourself very frustrated with a cheap espresso machine. There's more to pulling great shots of espresso than it seems at first glance!

Its a little more, but it allowes me to make my own fresh coffee. Would make my money back quickly vs paying a primuim for pods

What coffee pods does this use?
Does it take reusable pods like some of the Keurig machines do?
I use reusable pods on my Keurig since I can add more coffee than what the pods give me so I'm curious if this will do the same.
TIA

I buy a thing of batista oatmilk, make some brown sugar syrup and one of these pods, and it's the best low effort coffee you can make at home. If I remember to put one in the fridge before I leave work, it's uo there with the best cold coffee I've ever had.(I don't like ice it waters it down)
Tbf I live in the middle of nowhere and don't know much about actual good coffee. But for me it's fantastic.

Lavazza brand BLUE capsules are generally the way to go with this machine, as they are the best value in terms of taste and quality. I typically stick with them. As others mention, they go on sale from time-to-time for around 35¢ per capsule. This is much less expensive than both Nespresso Original or Vertuo capsules. Sure there are 3rd party capsules for Original Line that are sometimes cheap, but they don't compare well to the Nespresso branded and are usually still more expensive than Lavazza BLUE/Expert, double the cost in most cases.
I've owned Lavazza BLUE machines for 5 years. I've owned a couple of Nespresso Originaline machines as well, and in my opinion the Lavazza system is hands down better "if" you are interested in real Italian espresso. The Nespresso Original system only have 5g of coffee per capsule and makes a weaker shot. The Lavazza BLUE/Expert capsules contain more coffee 7 to 8g per capsule. There's no getting around the fact that Nespresso Orignal Line capsules are too small and don't contain enough coffee. The espresso the Classy Plus machine here will make is much better. For the Lavazza system, this machine in particular is a good one.
Vertuo has a strange centrifugal system that while it may produce tasty results, creates a fake crema. I have not had coffee/espresso from a Vertuo because the capsules are typically $1 a shot. That's not worth it IMO.
I've been seeing all kinds of strange comments about the Lavazza machine leaving too much espresso in the used capsule tray. That's not espresso, it's waste water that you wouldn't want to drink. Ignore that noise. The Lavazza machine makes outstanding espresso, read the online reviews of the machine and coffee capsules.
Like I said, I've owned several BLUE machines, a LB910, LB2312, and currently a LB2317, the latter two being commercial office models (I kept upgrading). I have thoroughly compared Lavazza and Nespresso and for regular espresso Lavazza is the superior system. It makes the most legit Italian espresso, compared to Nespresso.
Many commenters will suggest a semiauto or a superauto machine as an alternative, nothing wrong with that. There are pros and cons to all of them. In fact, I normally use my Gaggia Classic (semiauto), but people buy capsule machines for convenience, period! No grinding, super low maintenance, easier cleanup, and very consistent results. They're for people that like the convenience of Keurig, but want espresso to drink or make milk based drinks. Unfortunately, the design of the Classy Plus (and all BLUE machines) does not allow use of a reusable pod that you can use your own coffee. That said, If you are in the market for a capsule espresso machine, I think this Lavazza Classy Plus is the way to go. The price is a steal for this model.
