That would be never. George will croak before the series ever finishes... Let alone the next book.

I'm reading through Wheel of Time and noticed that the author (Robert Jordan) passed away with the series incomplete and another author (Brandon Sanderson) took all the notes and ended up finishing the series. Martin already has the whole story arc outlined with I'm sure plenty of notes so I wonder if this could be a plausible way for the series to completed.

If I recall correctly, somebody asked George R. R. Martin about that possibility and he told the person to F off, lol. This series is never going to be completed, and I doubt that even the next book will ever be published. As unsatisfying as the HBO conclusion was, I am thankful that they made ~a~ conclusion. Even if another book does ever come out, I probably won't read it. I ~certainly~ won't pay for it, though.

I don't know how you can make a box set of an incomplete series. I read all the books already why would I want to commemorate this guy not finishing the series. I read an article that he hired the guy that figured out that Dany was Jon's aunt to help finish the books. As we can all see that still hasn't helped. After watching season two of House of the dragon, I will not be surprised if it just gets cancelled. idk why HBO keeps pumping his trash.

There's a better chance Hunter x Hunter finishes than GOT finishing.

I had hopes for House of the Dragon but the way they butchered the end of season 2 is making me second guess the whole thing. At least the ending is already written...

Martin's endless profiteering and essential refusal to finish the series that started everything is too much for me. I started reading the series in 2010 when I was deployed to the Middle East, finished all the books by the end of my next deployment in 2012, and am still awaiting the next book. Well, I'm not waiting anymore, actually.

As someone mentioned above, I might read the next book, but I won't pay for it. It's been a shame to watch an amazing world get blown to pieces by greed and mismanagement. HBO's GoT was an incredible cultural phenomenon, but the fan base was destroyed in one season and the aftermath.

There's supposed to be two more books. Jon is still dead by the end of book five which is hwere this set ends. This is where GRRM left us. IDK. how they are marketing an incomplete set of books as something desirable.

There's a limited amount of blame to be put on HBO. GRRM probably told them that he would complete the books before the show ended which was six years before the show runners, Marc Benioff et al, had to step up and become writers to finish the show. GRRM had six years to finish the books and didn't do it. I can't imagine him even completing them now. It's been six years since it ended. WE had a global pandemic where everyone had to stay home and this guy didn't finish them. I don't think he's capable to finish them.
