This lens has really good optics and hits way above its price. AF is not as good as Sony (as expected), but the image quality is stellar.

I second all of that.
It was actually cheaper a couple months ago. I hesitated and the deal was gone. Tis is an excellent price.
The fly in the ointment may be the newly released Viltrox LAB 135 1.8. The Viltrox weighs a lot more, costs a little more and is sharper. Check out its reviews. HOWEVER: the Viltrox may have some manufacturing / reliability issues, Read Petapixel's article re why they didn't reviewed it.

Unlike the heavy Viltrox, the Samyang is wonderfully light!

seems like the lens station which may or may not be necessary to do firmware updates is also only 30 dollars too.

I own this and the Viltrox. Both are very good. For this price it's a no brainer....just get it. I'm always a little skeptical about SYs build quality, they are the only lens I had ever fault on me out of the blue. No accidental damage on my end. Either way this is very good.

Meh; reminds me how the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 still reigns; it's tack sharp at 135mm and f/2.8 is already well past the desired range of controlling depth of field, and plenty bright for a full-frame lens. Prime = limitation.

My experience with Samyang/Rokenon is that they have the lowest distortion without camera compensation. This is important if you are shooting anything with straight lines.

That's like 3 times the price and 1.8 vs 2.8 gives a completely different look and low light capability. And it's 1.7 lbs vs 2.5 lbs on tamron. Different use case. Prime is only a limitation to the photographer if they don't want that look. It's convenient using zooms don't get me wrong, but there's always room for a prime under f2.0.

Voltrix released a 135mm F/1.8 and it's been benchmarking better than the Sony

That is rookie thinking with all due respect. Zooms have their place, but there is nothing like a fast prime. I swear by my 35 f/1.4, great for ultra close shooting and, well, pretty much everything. I also love my MF Mamiya-Sekor 55 f/1.4 (which weighs just over 300g) though manual focus is a challenge. https://casualphotophile.com/2021...ns-review/ A review I wrote a few years ago.
