I beg to differ. I have tried to activate a Mint 3-month SIM about 4 months after purchase, but the automated process errored out. I tried convincing Customer Service to assist, but was ultimately denied.
Hi BJ, thanks for reaching out about the Mint Mobile 3 Month 20GB/mo Plan SIM Kit. A Mint Mobile 3 Month 20GB/mo Phone Plan SIM Kit expires 90 days after activation. If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

Because it's a 3-month plan.

Sim kits directly FROM Mint expire 45 days after purchase. Sim kits from BB and Target are YMMV. If they aren't drop shipped from Mint directly, odds are good you can activate beyond 45 days. Many have.
Buy 2 sim kits. Activate one whenever you want with a new phone number. When activated, service starts and is good for 3 months. When 3 months coming to an end, activate second card with new phone number. Use for another 3 months. Rinse repeat. You must get a new phone number each time as you cannot transfer your first number to the second sim card. If you have google voice then it doesn't matter how many times you get a new number because you have your real phone number with Google voice and any calls just get forwarded to the new "fake" number you just got because you can change your forwarding number every time within Google voice so that you're fake phone number will ring when someone calls your real number. This way you can take advantage of any deal at any time.

is this for new customers only?

I have been with mint for the past 3 months and need to renew my plan but I tried the APP and desktop website and cannot find anywhere to " Top Up " or ADD a prepaid plan such as this one.

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Really? Updating to unlimited data is free for this plan? I thought this was only 20 GB.

It's possible because mint service sees your 3 month 20gb plan service as $135 ($45 x 3)

Login to your mint mobile account online.
From account page go to "manage my plan"
select the 3 month option for the unlimited plan (regular cost $120)
follow the steps. does require you to put a payment method on file although there is no charge.
it makes it clear that auto renew is off.

trying to use the "$135" for any plan that is not 3 months will not work and will offer option to change plan at next renewal.
unlimited comes with 40GB/month + 10GB hot spot

It does not have to do with any particular promotion. Only a recent discovery. The way their site credits your account when activating a 3 month new customer promo. It shows up as if you paid the full amount for each month. So for the 20gb 3 month plan that retails for $45/month it sees it as a $135 which is more than the unlimited plan which retails for $40/month or $120 for 3 months which allows for the switch.

Thank you so much for the reply. Much appreciated. So for whatever reason the Mint 20 gb plan is more expensive than the unlimited plan. Makes perfect sense and thanks for sharing.

Could you purchase two of these, activate one for three months and then, at the end of those three months, activate the second one by keeping the number (porting in) from the first one?

It is cleary written at the back of the SIM card package:
" Your SIM must be activated within 45 days".
Buying 2 would make the 2nd one inactive after 45 days.

That wasn't my question.......I will quote what a poster said earlier as it speaks of similar experience I've had.

Personal experience using mint for years with cards bought from bestbuy and target only. If you buy from mint themselves then they have a hard 45 day period. Not so with 3rd party vendors. Others here will concur with me.

Please read this thread. Mint HAS changed their policy.
Now they do NOT allow activation of ANY sim card 45 days after purchase. This is true for physical retail stores as well.

The one I recently activated, 12/22, was purchased form Target in August. On the card it says "Activate by Date: 12/12/2025". Wasn't attempting to start an argument; just telling of my experience. As the caveat goes, YMMV. I'll get back to you.....

Anyone able to successfully activate this SIM, more than 45 days after purchasing it? Thanks in advance.
