It's a good deal. If you become a movie club member, concessions would be 40% off.
This is awesome. Combined with their $5 movies on Tuesdays and you have a pretty slick deal.
Their movie club is a pretty good deal anyway. You get one ticket a month for the fee. Even if you don't go that often, the tickets accumulate. You are in essence prebuying tickets at a discount. Regular ticket prices are in the $14 range. You don't have to use the pre- bought tickets. When I go on Tuesday for $6, I just pay. I use my pre bought tickets on other days. Also,You can use your accumulated tickets for other people.

You can't use the gift for the membership, or for merch in their third party online site to get the popcorn buckets that are always sold out by the time you get to the theater for the movie. Also, if you cancel the membership, you only have like 30 days to use those credits that have rolled over, so if you try to get the membership at 20% off and are currently a member, they will still charge you the $12/month and just give you 12 credits you need to spend before you let the membership go, or keep it another year, and now you have 24 credits to use up. I get senior tickets for $8.25, and don't 'buy concessions. so paying them $12 a month for a free ticket wasn't worth it to me.

The fact you can't use their own GC to pay for their own movie club is ridiculous and a real killer of this being too much of a SD. If you cancel your membership, all your earned credits will expire in 6-months. The last 6 months have been a real drought for solid releases and no need to keep loading up a ticket backlog that will take me a long time to use, especially for the moderate value of $8.80 a ticket (this black friday deal) in places where Tuesday tickets can be had for much less.

you just go through the concessions line like you normally do, then give the cashier your membership code and tell them you want to redeem a movie credit toward your purchase. the credit amount in my case was $11.99 - I don't know if the amount varies depending on where you live. I'm in SoCal.
Hm, interesting. and what happens when your order is less than $12? Where does the difference go?

edit: Got curious and looked it up. seems like no partial credit is returned so it's best I order more than a credit's worth for the best value. thanks for the tip! I have a lot of unused credits I rarely use so this would be a good way to burn through them.

if you join movie club and you go to the teather often, it pays for itself. its 12 bucks a month, for 1 free ticket, 20% off consessions, and waived fees. the tickets stack up for a year if you dont use them that month.
they also have a lower tier that is 6 bucks and has the same benefits, except you get 1 ticket every other month. to me that is the better value for the money if you dont go too often.

you're welcome.
I didn't mention it before, but I hope you're also redeeming rewards points for "coupons" off concessions ... .

Can use the racked up tickets for concessions payment too.

Can you use the GC at concessions? It's high way robbery there!
Yes, but it is still highway robbery with 30% off.

Can physical cards be bought in store with the same discount?
I went to my local Costco today, and they had this same deal for physical gift cards. Ends tomorrow. I imagine many Costco don't sell them at all though. If your Costco sells them, they should be $35.

I checked at my local Costco today and they are selling at $39.99. I told them it is $34.99 at Costco online and they said it is a "different entity". This is in the Dallas area.

Make sure to use the actual member's credit card and billing/shipping information. Costco has been cracking down on people sharing online accounts and getting items shipped to different addresses. It's an automated system I believe so the even though you may be able to place the order it'll get canceled immediately.

If you cancel your membership and if you have unused free movie credits, they give u 6mos after cancellation before they expire.
