Anker is a reputable brand for powerbank/chargers etc but this surge protector is more like a power strip. It's rated voltage camp is 1200V. Kinda high. You want this number to be lower. At least under 500V

If you actually want a good surge protector get one that has 330V clamp. But they usually cost twice as much as this anker.
Same model for $19.99, also from AnkerDirect and no Prime required.

Walmart also sells for $21.50 (clip $7.50 coupon) for those with Walmart Plus.

Further concerns. This subject product according to Wirecutter:
"The 12-outlet Anker 351 Power Strip performed dreadfully in our testing, offering no surge protection whatsoever."

Fantastic, with so many outlets. Now I can heat my whole house from one outlet by plugging multiple space heaters with long extension cords into this.

I just joined W+ the other day and checked your link.
I did not have a coupon to clip however, it said "Add to cart" to see the price, and it came up the price you mentioned.

I know Costco does that a lot of times too. Even if you're signed into your account. So maybe that's something to look out for extra discounts while scrolling thru W's site 😉

Why anyone purchases surge protectors that don't have auto-shutoff and lifetime warranties is beyond me. BIFL, and actually protector your electronics instead of guessing!
I had to quickly google what BIFL stood for but I would say that is definitely my philosophy and the mindset of many others from Slickdeals. Especially ones that have been around since near the beginning. It did bring me to a Reddit post based on this. Do you have any other spots to look at that are for these type of things?, instead of must throw away stuff? 😝

Cheaper 4000 joule 500v clamping $18.88 at Home depot. Not USB C.

They used to be pretty good with warranty service. Could be worth while to message them
Yup, Anker would likely replace it.

Is that brand a Home Depot brand? It looks like a Tripp Lite. Ugly but looks good for the price.

I was going to buy the APC at Amazon with a 15% AMEX coupon and for some reason could not get it to come up as available so I ordered from Best Buy.but I had a bunch of low value gift cards that paid for most of it. Only thing is that I hear APC is no longer making surge protectors

I could've sworn there were reports a year or so ago regarding the volatility of these power strips and that Anker wasn't willing to warranty a 'specific dollar amount' of whatever the strip was liable for damaging.

My recollection of "Anker".... Some of this is easily verifiable, and a little anecdotal.

Some chinese guy came to the US, went to school, got a job (in the US).

Decided he could make a fortune by moving home and paying other chinese people $0.10/hour to make products (which may have been above average/good), and selling those products in the US at huge markups (over costs).

Established a decent reputation, and then started to cut "costs" while increasing profits.

My enthusiasm for Anker products has waned substantially with each additional product. "Average", or even "good", does not mean "premium", nor does it justify premium prices.

YMMV..

And no, I have no problem with capitalism, or ambition.....
Didn't they use to *buy* positive reviews initially, too? Included a card offering something or other as I recall.

Anker, TaoTronics, UGreen, Baseus, etc... are all the same. Anker became popular when Amazon banned a bunch of the other brands, but not Anker. Anker did some better marketing and reinvested profits in more marketing. Smart business really, people will buy anyting. Just look at Apple airpods, they use the lowest quality codec, but command a high price like most of their stuff. Marketing. Apple marketing is the best in the business. I bet your story of Anker is pretty close to accurate. Which is great for the owner of Anker. The moral of the story for all, do a little research and understand what specs matter. Specs, especially the ones they don't list on the website or package mean everything. If they don't list the specs you need, you know why.

Ok this is silly, unclear why you are taking a hipshot at Apple in this unrelated Anker post, it doesn't make even the remotest of sense, but I'll indulge for s&g - people on the IOS ecosystem buy AirPods not specifically because of Apple's marketing prowess, people buy them because of h1+ chipsets and the products deeper integration into the iOS ecosystem then third party offerings - that simplifies a lot of things in headphone use, the product is serviceable and delivers good enough fidelity for 98% of folks - audiophiles / studio engineers do not need to opt for these conveniences

exactly - anker isn't a bad brand, but for surge protectors i wouldn't buy this, i'd do research a buy a brand with good specs, auto-shut-off, a high joule rating, etc.

It wasn't a hipshot, actually I think they are brilliant in their marketing. As for the airpods, I just mentioned it as my wife wanted a pair and I had her try my sony's with LDAC codec enabled. She immediately realized the difference in quality and neither of us would be considered an audiophile.

I have heard many say they love the Apple integrations, but that is really done by design by marketing. Again, brilliant. If it was true integration it would work with any device. I considered buying an Apple watch once, but then learned it wouldn't work with my phone so I bought a different brand. The H1 chip, well just Google apple h1 chipset versus sony (or versus anything you like) and you can find the specs and decide for yourself. H1 is just good marketing imo, but brilliant as it works.

My whole point, and clearly using apple as a reference was a bad idea in a world where so many love them (brand loyalty) was not to upset anyone, but to show that Anker, is exactly what someone else mentioned a general product that many companies rebrand and use marketing to make very popular. Hopefully this leads people to make purchase decisions that lead them to good products for them, that meet their needs. Not some Anker powerbar with horrible specs that ends up damaging users equipment solely because they bought it based on name or brand loyalty alone. In short, if a brand works for you then buy it! Just be sure you know what you are paying for.

Side note, I own some Anker products. They had good specs for a good price so I bought them. I don't hate Anker.
