Here is what to do:

First thing to do is to remove the pre-installed antivirus and just go with windows defender and the the free malwarebytes... its all you need. Next thing to do is check for updates in the vantage app, update (I dont recommend bios updates) and then uninstall the vantage app. The next thing to do is download Lenovo Legion toolkit here:

https://github.com/BartoszCicheck...ionToolkit

That is essentially Vantage but uses much less resources.

The next thing to do is type "Startup Apps" in the search bar in windows 11.

Disable everything except the realtek audio driver and the windows security notifications.

Reboot..

Next update your geforce drivers (open geforce experience).

Next, install the xbox app and xbox accessories app if you are an xbox controller user and gamepass user.

Next, go into nvidia control panel and make sure in the settings that power management mode says "Maximum performance"

Next, make sure enable G-sync is selected for the laptop display in nvidia control panel.

Next, download steam, gog, and epic games and make sure to get your free weekly epic games.

next, if you are gamepass user, download the Hellblade 2 to test your system, its a next-gen game that looks insane on this laptop. Some games are crashing with RTX ray tracing enabled (Witcher 3 for example).

next, go ahead and type startup apps again and disable anything except the mentioned above..

next, disable fast startup (will get rid of hiccups in games)...

https://www.windowscentral.com/so...%20startup

Lastly, remember to user the FN-Q keyboard command often... if you are not gaming, make sure the power light is on blue...

getting the bottom off to upgrade the nvme is a pain in the you know what.. hardest laptop ever... youtube it first...
You can get 4070 laptops for less but the build quality of the legion is so much nicer than many laptops out there. That is worth something to me. I want this to last several years. Also has upgradeable ram and nvme. I haven't had luck with some asus laptops I've tried prior to sticking to this.
It seems tradeoff between performance vs premium feeling based on reviews online
This is slightly better than similarly priced i5 pro deal from best buy due to better screen and newer model but IMO 4070 device for $1500 is still hard pill to swallow

Picked up a used one of these in the 4060 variety, had to return due to GPU failing when running games. Which is probably why it was discounted so heavily lol.

But I will comment on the build quality in that it is fantastic. I mainly use MacBook Pros and it feels of the same vein. It's super sturdy and the hinges are tight. The keyboard doesn't indent into the laptop like a majority of lower and mid tier laptops. I would actually pay a premium for this line. It actually feels like a premium laptop.

I would have kept it if not for the failing GPU.

I have monitored legion and asus deals for 2 month, for portable device, it is better to wait the G series, for best performance, this is the best deal recently. i5 and pro i5 is made of plastic, and when consider about ports/power , i7 is always better within $200~300 price difference.

Agree on build quality of legion. For those who prioritize aesthetics and brand reliability over performance/price ratio, this is not too bad. If I needed something right now, I can see myself buying it.

EDIT: I just realized you could order this through Lenovo website to pick up at best buy, and this way you can use CBs... I had cap one targeted 30% up to $250 offer in email, suddenly the deal became much more enticing hmm..

What's the difference between this model (83FD0015US) and the 83FD0018US model: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/la...83fd0018us
Looks to me like just the color is different, but the base price is different by $360. I bought the black one and debating whether I should get the white one from BB. Your advice will be appreciated!

Nice, but I can't quite make myself pay $1500 for a laptop 4070. Also white... might not be a color that ages the best.

It looks like the same exact spec, however you can get the white one at Best Buy..maybe more "exclusive" vs the tradition black model that most folks with a Legion will have?

I never trust base price though, they change it all the time.
