Curious for input as this one caught my eye! I don't do any gaming. Home usage only Word, excel, internet
i would say this is overkill just for that but this will last you a few years and if you ever need a laptop for something more hardware demanding, you should be ok as long its not to extreme.

This is what I'm looking for a new laptop for. I was looking at an HP from Walmart or an Asus from B&H Photo for $500 (The Asus went from $480 to $500, but I think it's still the better buy than the $500 HP), but this is looking like what I want for $100 less.
I've always been an Intel guy, so I'm a little skeptical about the AMD processor, but from what I understand, Intel is for higher power work, while AMD is more suited to everyday productivity usage and usually at a lower price point than Intel?

For normal everyday use like word, excel, internet, youtube, netflix, AMD and Intel are just fine. It's when you get into the extreme gaming vs productivity (coding, compiling, video editing, rendering, AI stuff) that there begins to be a noticeable difference in speed and power usage.
I'm also considering this for my father who just uses it for normal everyday stuff, but HP build quality has be second guessing.
Recently bought "Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Laptop, 15.6" Screen, AMD Ryzen 7, AI Enabled, 16GB Memory, 512GB Solid State Drive, Wi-Fi 6, Windows® 11" from Office Depot for $399 for Black Friday (not shipped or processed yet), but this looks like a better deal. Same processor, same memory, but this is double storage and has an extra SODIMM slot to potentially upgrade memory.

This one is Ryzen 5. You mention yours is 7.

I sail in same boat as you . Same idea pad laptop at the same deal from Office Depot . HP looks better for me as well. Still I have 13 days to return , meanwhile I am doing some load testing by installing visual studio ( Coding ) and some other apps on idea pad . DM me , we can work together to get better edge !
