Plan to use this as a hotspot solution for in vehicle use. Although, Im tempted to get the more powerful and expensive 5g capable GL-x3000 (Spitz AX).
I read reviews that this hotspot can heat up in use; not sure if you were planning on leaving it in the car or just taking it with you when you needed it.
I did see that as well. I was thinking I would only leave it in the car for a few hrs each day and then remove it. I could probably get away with this in the winter months , but definitely not summer time. This is the reason why Im on the fence with this one. Most reviews I've seen on it seem great though. I just ordered one of the GL.inet WiFi travel routers ( without cellular) and I am very excited about that as well!
I have this, and mine does get really hot to the touch when it's on (when I used it in a bag in a tropical location). I bought one of their physical SIM cards that can load eSIM, but haven't had another trip to try that yet. I like that having a WiFi hotspot with me when traveling internationally allows me to use WiFi calling and texting while leaving my phone on airplane mode to avoid surprise charges. (Seems like both Android and iOS won't allow you to use data from a secondary sim to enable and use WiFi calling on your primary number so the hotspot bypasses that software limitation. )
I have a few gl-inet routers and love how easy they make it to connect to my WireGuard and OpenVPN servers to reach home and secure my connection, and they can do wisp mode to connect to hotel WiFi too.
I also have this MUDI hotspot, it is SOLID. The UI gets a bit used to, but signal and speeds are great, and I love having the option to have a pseudo-permanent VPN client built in to route all traffic. It does get a bit warm with heavy usage, but IMO you need to treat this like a mini-Unix machine that has a processor to cool. Also, I believe you can register the eSIM directly in the web UI.
Why are these devices are 4g lte? All SIM cards require 5g or will run on very very slow or no connection using on 4g. I tried on a 4g device with a T-Mobile 5g SIM. It just don't want to play with each other.

Can this also be used as a plain wifi travel hotspot (like the Beryl, etc) to consolidate 2 devices for travel.
I had the same thought, previously. This is designed to be used mainly as a 4g hotspot device. It technically can be used as a wifi travel router, but due to the hardware limitations, it will work but it will not operate on the same level. The beryl or slate wifi travel routers will likely have better wifi speeds and support more devices/clients and offer additional features due to having better hardware. Perhaps someone who has used it as such can chime in and offer feedback. For my personal use, I ordered one of each.

I don't know...I think the 5G hotspot devices are just at a higher price point in new condition, so the deal is that you compromise on the maximum capability of a plan and pay less, but also the majority of the population doesn't need more than a solid LTE connection to do most of what they would want to do while on the go.

The issue is it's not even connecting when I plug in a 5g sim card into a 4g lte device like this one. I don't mind it's slower, but no connection render it's useless. On 5g devices, it works with the sim.
