Previous deal for the S01-pF2043wb variant the other day @$140 appears to be the exact same specs and chassis. Likely a different SKU used for a different distributor, retailer, etc. They share driver versions in the support page and appears to include the same wireless keyboard and mouse combo as well. This variant does not have an optical drive in its specs, so the bezel is likely a blank slot. There should be a free hanging power cable for an additional 3.5 HDD but you will need a sata cable. There are two DIMM memory slots, with one being occupied by a stick of 8GB DDR4 2933Mhz.

Support page with specs
https://support.hp.com/us-en/prod...u=7Z6X4AAR

I'm likely going to turn one into a Plex media server since the i3-12100 has QuickSync. Maybe another for a light gaming setup for kids/siblings with a gpu upgrade and added memory. This appears to take a single-slot, low profile gpu which limits your options in addition to the 180W PSU. Some options, if buying new, include NVIDIA GTX 1650, AMD RX 6400, and maybe Intel Arc A380(likely no ReBar support from an OEM BIOS). XFX and Sapphire have low profile RX 6400 models that should fit. PCIe 4.0 is likely with the OEM mobo, due to being compatible with the H670 chipset, but could be PCIe 3.0 and would limit performance. I will update this comment with what I find when I receive my unit.

Edit: Came with SK Hynix 1x8GB single rank 3200mhz ram. 512GB SSD is Kioxa KBG50ZNV512G. There are two free hanging sata data and power cables. No optical drive, no SD card reader. Mouse keyboard was included. Booted to Windows desktop and idle was around 10-20w. Has space for both a 3.5 and 2.5 drive. 4 usb front, 4 back. Ports for Ethernet, VGA, HDMI, audio out, audio in. Mobo has free SATA port blank.
Couple of clues. Check the review's under this listing, some mention being surprised this including a keyboard which was not in the listing. The previous slickdeal post I linked also has people commenting it in the thread as well. Then there is also the HP support site for that variant, which lists the keyboard and mouse model (HP 510SP Black Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo). Looks to be your basic $5-10 office set if you need one. Wasn't able to find the support doc for this variant to confirm sadly.
CAUTION: I've bought from
Them a lot but man they're terrible at managing their quality of inventory. I won't buy any electronics from in the future. Poor customer service too.

this is a smoking deal. I was about to order an N100 motherboard for about this price to use as a Plex server. this is several times more powerful at the same price, for a complete unit. The only downside is I don't think I can fit two 3 1/2 inch drives in the case.
Also, I've made many purchases from the seller over the years and never had a problem with anything from them.

Except for its storage, is it good enough as a plex server out of the box?
Absolutely! I used a lower spec one with the G5900 processor for years for my Plex server. Since the processor supports QSV you're able to do hardware transcoding very well. I used a separate Linux box for my file server, but there's no reason you couldn't use a NAS device for that and then use the S01 for transcoding.

Here's everything you'd ever want to know about these little boxes:

What is most affordable way to add another hdmi to this for a second monitor?
There are USB 3.0 video adapters that are plug and play. If you are comfortable opening it up look for a low profile video card. Check the dimension very carefully before purchasing. With the USB device route the internal dimensions are not a concern.

Would also like to know thoughts on this. My old one died, and I've been using my daughters laptop as an interim but need a replacement. I think this should fit the bill, but would like to know if anyone has thoughts or experience on it.

I do have older full size GFX cards (1060) I could put in, but nothing lopro, unfortunately.

probably a HDMI splitter

for dual monitor, you can also get a monitor with VGA port.

I'm thinking about buying vs making a NAS . . .the price on this seems tempting but I wonder if there is room in this case for 3-4 full-size SATA drives. . . anyone have any experience with these machines?

I don't think even close. If you had the space, I don't think it has enough power and / or SATA connections on the motherboard either.

Is getting one of the Optiplex PCs from Dell Refurbished for a similar price a better option in terms of specs / performance? Just for a family member to do some word processing, video streaming and web surfing

Sorry, only room for a single 3.5" drive. Probably not the best use case for this. Of course you could always get a JBOD case and use this as the server side of it.

Would an HDMI splitter even give him two unique outputs? I would think a splitter would only mirror one display to the other. Either that, or I'm just struggling to wrap my head around it.

I would say no. I have a sff HP Intel 10th gen. You probably have to stay 65w or less. So no k processors. 12600 non k or 12700 non k should work. 12600k is 125w tdp. 12600 is 65w
it'll be totally fine.

it's not like K CPUs idle at TDP. The idle will be the same as non-k
