Wow, the grinch really has done it this time. He has stolen Christmas and all that's left are used antique video cards
Lol $666 for a 4 year old refurbished crap brand 3090 gpu that is only promised to work for 90 days and no accessories. It seems the devil is involved as well. Nvidia and AMD are playing a game of chicken with us consumers since they made so much money during the pandemic. They can just squeeze every dollar from the richest folks overpaying for cards. No need to make the prices reasonable.

Because that card can run AI. They don't care gamers any more
Wait does it run ai better? In general or certain AI? How is it better for AI?
Nvidia GPUs are optimized for their CUDA libraries, which support LLM applications (i.e. AI). The extra vram on the 3090 is important, but CUDA is the magic sauce that makes it superior (for productivity work) compared to something like the 7900xtx that also has 24gb of vram.

Forgive me I know little about this. So as a regular consumer, how can getting this benefit me? If I do a little bit of coding (basic), I like to generate AI images and videos ethically, but productivity wise. Is there anything beneficial as a Joe user? Or is this more important for like colleges and business that have to train ai model on their data? I'm trying to gauge the educational benefit over gaming as a regular user, not super user. I use some ai that saved a lot of time. I'm not sure how to wield it further. But I'm all into ai to save me time on many things. And am very noob on this. Thanks in advance.

Not sure I'd trust any Zotac refurbs unless they have a long warranty. I bought 4 cards over the summer directly from Zotac's Ebay store (2 year warranty) and two of them died within 60 days. No OC'ing, always ran at cool temps, etc. I definitely will not be buying again.

Didn't realize they were refurbs or used. I honestly wonder what they do to refurbish it. Is it just an underpaid employee sticking in a computer and think "ok it works" and slaps sticker on?

As a regular user, the big reason to run local AI models is so that you can generate "naughty" images & chatbots that the mainstream AI services refuse to produce. Not really a productive use, but certainly can be entertaining at times.

Yes, I suspect the buyers are the ones doing the real testing. If Zotac had stress tested or even attempted to play a game on either of the two defective cards I received, then they would have seen problems immediately. This tells me there is no in-depth testing going on with these used/refurb deals other than "does it power on". The buyer isn't receiving much of a discount and they are rolling the dice on reliability combined with a short warranty, so it's probably not a great deal.
I grabbed the $240 3070 a couple of weeks ago for a flip when I couldn't find any good 6700XT/6750XT deals... RTX sells better anyway, even if it isn't what I'd buy for myself. It has a very distinct teal-to-purple fade chrome accent, so it's definitely not going to look great in every build, but I'm using it in a Lian Li A3 Wood with mesh side panel instead of glass and no ARGB, so it's fine.

you want to look at the price for a 24G vram card?
while you may need the faster processing unit to run CUDA for training and tuning, to use a existing model, you just need card to be sufficiently enough for token generations but with big enough memory to hold the model. thus the mac are quite cost efficient if you want to run llama 3B models (with 4-bit quantization if you want to limit the vram under 16G)

I'm rooting for AMD...my last 4 cpu purchases have been AMD. Intel has had some issues lately, but I use to buy mostly Intel. I have an equal mix of Nvidia and AMD gpus.
We need AMD just as competition..AMD is an under dog....they haven't done as well as Nvidia, but AMD is strong and hopefully will continue to grow.

AMD dropped out of the race, they've stated the best they are going to produce moving forward are mid tier cards which leaves nvidia by themselves and with blackwell sold out for 2025 I wouldn't expect prices to come down for the next 2yrs min and even then it won't be on the flagships. The best hope we had was intel GPUs but they completely fumbled it.
What people should be doing is buying the dip when nvidia stock goes down (<140) and then sell when it goes back up (>140) or buy and hold or try your hand at options...but give up on actually getting a video card.

It has 24gb of vram. Ai models usually run better/faster with more ram.
