If you are planning to make espresso the encore does work. If you want even finer ground you can also replace the burr with the M2 (part 6175) that is for the esp but is compatible for the encore. Google it for people and baratza explaining how and why do the upgrade). You can get it here https://www.baratza.com/en-us/lan...duct/parts
While you browse this page notice how ALL the parts are available. Quite refreshing.
Baratza is my go-to recommendation these days for coffee grinders. As some others have mentioned, they are designed to be kept OUT of landfills via readily available replacement parts and relatively easy servicing. What people don't know as much, is that their own servicing options are pretty affordable and top notch, even for grinders out of warranty. My 10 year old Encore starting having issues with grind size inconsistency and I tried to fix it myself a few times without success. During that process they sent me multiple small parts, usually for free. Finally I reached out to their servicing and got a quote to send in my grinder to repair and upgrade to the M2 burrs, and the final out of pocket cost to me was $78 including any shipping charges. It would have cost me at least $40 just for the M2 parts kit. Now I have essentially a Virtuoso+ (for much less cost) without having to scrap my old Encore. Customer for life as long as they keep this ethos , customer service and making quality products.
Assuming people here who are in the market for this know the ESP has additional 'finer' grind settings than the normal encore grinder. If you aren't grinding coffee for espresso, you don't need the ESP. I have it and it's great but my super automatic has an integrated grinder.

Although you still get a little of a mess over time. I'd like to get the Sette or Niche Zero but can't justify the cost with my current setup.

It's worth noting that these grinders are a solid value for the output, but if you think it might be annoying to hear what sounds like a wolverine fighting a wood chipper while you're grinding your coffee you may want to look elsewhere.

if you're not planning on making espresso the oxo is great. it just can't grind fine enough for espresso but works just fine for pour over or automated brew

I've done this, it works really well. More consistent grinding too.
