Remember in CA you can cash out the GC under $10. So if you spend wisely its two tickets and $10GC for $25

You can only save a max 14 per ticket and 20 for the GC. So 48-35...is 13....13/48 is 27%
Where do you see a max savings of 14/ticket? My local AMC is $19 per ticket (2d) on a weekend, so 2 black tickets covers $38 of ticket costs, then I still have a $20 gift card left over, so I'm 'up" $23 over paying cash outright. In other words, I've paid $35 instead of $58, which means I've 'saved' $35/$58' 40%?

All the AMC theaters in the Houston, TX area are pretty old and ragged. Shame, because this seems like a great deal.

Is a regular movie price for any day / time is $14?

Based on some other comments previously, the pass you buy from costco only covers max of $14. If your ticket price is $19, you will have to pay $5 difference on your own (or from the gift card)

The price cutoff isn't in dollars, per se. It's based on the type of ticket you are buying.

For example, near me standard digital tickets are $16.50 and the black ticket covers those without surcharge.

However, AMC has been getting big into upcharges so there are a LOT of alternative formats -- not just 3D. For example by me Moana 2 tries to get me to buy tickets for "Dolby Cinema" or 3D which do have about a $5 or $6 surcharge.

AMC and ticket sites generally list most expensive ticket options first, so you gotta scroll down.

Also note that if you're seeing an afternoon movie, the ticket savings might be low to zero to negative (in low cost of living areas a matinee might be less than the effective $10 you pay for the black ticket pass).

If you watch dolby digital or any other premium format expect to pay $8 surcharge. At least in CA. So Black ticket + $8. it's not worth it unless you watch standard.

That's not true. There's just a surcharge that applies to IMAX, Dolby Digital, 3D & AMC Prime screenings. The black tickets should cover a standard digital screening in any theater in any state and prices vary widely across the country. The same screening of the Gladiator II tonight in my home town is $13.50, in Atlanta where I live is $19 and where my buddy lives in NYC is $22. The Black ticket will cover basic showings of all 3 with no surcharge. If you choose a premium showing, they'll charge you $5-5.50 more.

It makes less sense to use these deals if you're just going to take your kids to a matinee standard digital showing outside of a major city, but you should still save $10-15. For me, the tickets alone would be $38, so it's $3 saved plus a $20 gift card.

Like almost everything that gets repeated on the internet these days, that is just false info. The top review on costco's site for this product says they had $17.50/ticket covered by each code. At my local theater, black tickets take off the entire $19 per ticket. Good luck.

"We already purchased 4 tickets for Avatar-2. Everything is working and is pretty simple. Passes: 1) add to the card (each order for two tickets) 2) wait for the Costco email for PINs 3) click on the pin to open a new page. You receive two new pin codes (12 letters and 8 letters) 4) go to the amc website or app and then choose the movie you want to watch, proceed to the payment then choose voucher and enter both 12 and 8 pin numbers. Besides you can use your gift card section to benefit the 20$ for any remaining fees. Costco tickets provide 17.5$ each single ticket. Each 3d laser Imax ticket might cost 25$ so you should pay the rest. It is really worth it."

This is not much of a deal. I have lots of AMC Readmit passes that can be used in anything whereas the black tickets have so much limitations. But then again, if you exclude CA, NJ, and NY, you pretty much eliminated a big portion of AMC IMAX theaters in this country.

As a former AMC manager, you're basically saving $15 which is equivalent to one free ticket for a standard movie. Not bad, I've seen better deals but it's a good one regardless

You basically never know how a theater may treat these tickets. Hard pass for me.
