TJ Maxx in actual stores has the Breville Barista Pro for $499.99! This is not a markdown or refurbished, but probably ymmv. It doesn't show up on their website.

So stoked that I scored this machine for $500 that I am compelled to post for the first time to give y'all hope!
I heard about this deal in the comments of the $679.95 Amazon thread last week. Went to 7 stores on Sunday 12/8, 3 TJ Maxx, 3 Homegoods, 1 Marshalls. All in Eastern Wisconsin. Here's what I found:
  • TJ Maxx #2: Three Breville Barista Express for $500
  • Homegoods #1: Two Breville Infusers (forget the price)
  • TJ Maxx #3: One Breville Barista Pro for $500 that's now in my home thanks to Slickdeals
While some folks in the other thread and reddit mentioned finding theirs on a high shelf or somewhere you wouldn't expect, I swept the entire floor of every store and all the Brevilles were always on a table with a bunch of other large appliances (e.g. Breville toasters, nutribullets, etc.) in the middle of the aisle or adjacent to an endcap near the home/kitchen goods.

FYI the box does indeed have a sticker on it noting the Baratza burrs, and I have made some phenomenal drinks already after dialing it in (highly recommend watching a video tutorial for that.) I'm extremely pleased with this machine and hope it holds up over the years. My barista friend, the snobbiest of coffee snobs, said he can make a 7/10 espresso drink on his friend's BBP. For the lowkey snob or average person, I'd say that's a 9 or 10.

As for the Barista Pro vs. Bambino, the integrated grinder on the BBP seems totally fine to me. I had to manually adjust the top burr from the factory setting of 6 to 2, but there's still plenty of room to go finer if I ever need to. I ultimately decided on the Barista Pro over the Bambino + standalone grinder just to bring an end to the analysis paralysis. To keep it simple. I don't have time to go that hard in another hobby lol.

Godspeed to all of you on the hunt.

I bought my Breville Barista Pro from Marshall's around a month or so ago. They also had the Breville Barista Express for the same price. I highly recommend checking the box before you walk out the store as the first one I bought was used and a return (didn't know since the box looked brand new) and had missing parts and pieces. The 2nd one I found was brand new, thankfully! I've seen the stainless steel color and black sesame color for both options.

Good luck with the hunt! They sometimes will have other Breville products, like the Smart Oven, toasters, and kettle

The Barista pro has fake steps displayed from a rotation sensor somewhere in the gearing. It is actually stepless internally. The knob is all mechanical as well, no electronic step adjustment. So technically, you can dial in half steps or 1/3s
Very interesting, I was given bad info then, and I apologize for passing it on! I don't know why it gets so much hate, then. 🤷 ♂️

The new Brevilles in 2024 use Baratza M2 grinders which are excellent. The downside of the Bambino is that it doesn't have the three way solenoid and will produce watery pucks which are a pain to clean. I'd rather have the Barista Pro. IMO only the snobs can tell the difference between a Baratza grinder and something better and personally I'd rather have less mess.
I have a pro and getting that watery pucks.

I have a feeling a lot of these are the older units with the older grinder. If you can tell the manufacture date before opening, anything made in 2024 should have the newer baratza grinder.

There are at least 3 versions that I know of. The oldest does not come with the dosing funnel. So if you don't see that on the box you know for sure it's an old unit. The newish ones come with one.

The latest one has the dosing funnel + updated grinder.

I honestly would recommend a separate grinder and just get the bambino plus but that's just me. I no longer use the built in grinder on mine. I use a DF64 gen 2 and it's much better than my old one.
My wife found one at our local TJ maxx. Verified it's the newest model with the baratza grinder and dosing funnel. She grabbed it for me as it was the only one they had.

I've only seen this one time at TJ Maxx in Northern Virginia at the Tysons location. There were 3 and it was all gone in 15 mins so it's all luck in the NOVA area.

The old grinder wasn't that great apparently but it's a different beast now with the Baratza burrs.

Just curious, with the top burr at 2 what is your setting for the grinder dial? For me, I have the top burr at 4 and am currently using a dial setting of around 3 and 2/3, though I may try reducing that to 3.5 tomorrow.

Well, it's not because of the solenoid design. Not sure what else could be the cause.

I've been called a liar so many times on this site for posting about these stores selling the barista pro over the past 2 years. Good to see others are coming around. 🤣
