I've been going to many places in OC on and off for a few months now and still haven't scored one. Hopefully I get lucky soon as it would make a nice gift…. I have a bambino myself now

Been looking for the past couple of days in NOVA. Started out far all the way in Warrenton then South Riding Gainesville Sterling Manassas. Ended up finding one in Fairfax City TJ Maxx today. Manassas had Barista Express Pro in black. Dulles Marshalls had dual temp pro. Surprised to find it in my vicinity. Lol
I returned in black. I'm afraid that black paint will chip at the base. They even included plastic protector for the black version for reason.
I'm glad that I was able to find in stainless steel..

I hesitated to purchase the one I saw last Thursday, went back to the store yesterday and someone was just taking it off the table. Missed it by that much. Checked a lot of stores and nothing. I'm seeing a lot of the Duo Temp Pro, a few Bambino's and one Infuser but no more Barista Pros.

I just grabbed one in Clearwater Florida after calling around for weeks but noticed it's from the end of '23 so it has the dosing filter but I think the older grinder. For a beginner to intermediate coffee person, is the integrated older grinder good enough or will I regret this purchase

Edit — Turns out that the hopper inside my box has Baratza sticker on it. Interesting

I have a feeling a lot of these are the older units with the older grinder. If you can tell the manufacture date before opening, anything made in 2024 should have the newer baratza grinder. There are at least 3 versions that I know of. The oldest does not come with the dosing funnel. So if you don't see that on the box you know for sure it's an old unit. The newish ones come with one.The latest one has the dosing funnel + updated grinder. I honestly would recommend a separate grinder and just get the bambino plus but that's just me. I no longer use the built in grinder on mine. I use a DF64 gen 2 and it's much better than my old one.
Bought from Marshalls day before TG, build month Aug 2024. Has all 3 goodies - Baratza photo, actual 6-point grinder inside, and dosing funnel. Very nice machine and unbeatable price, people were paying over $600 two years ago.
Edit to add: To each his/her own, but I think the Baratza grinder is very good. There is plenty of chatter that points to it having the same business parts as the $200 ESP Encore, which machine is considered table stakes for an espresso grinder. Sure you can get a 'better' one (better how? A grinder does one thing and one thing only (and no, you don't get any prizes for guessing what). Finer? The Baratza is fine. Coarser? Of course it does that too. Consistency? I don't stumble across any boulders in my grind. I think many of us have gotten conditioned into the thought process of "more $$ = better". Can be true, but not always true. The most satisfying car I owned, and I've owned a few, was the first-year Infiniti G35, which set me up for the disappointment that followed when I 'upgraded' it to a BMW (and not one of the cheap ones either). Yes I know Nissan/Infiniti lost its way after that, but boy that G35 showed everyone how it's done. Sorry for rambling...

So where is the Baratza photo you're referring to? Mine was manufactured 48th week of 2023, doesn't say or show anything about Baratza on the box, but when o opened the machine, the hopper had Baratza written on it.

And I just compared it to another from 2024 and although the packaging is different, the burrs are the same. Interesting

They updated the burrs in late 2023 before they had a chance to change the packaging. The new box (introduced sometime in late 2023 or early 2024) has a close-up photo of the burrs on the side of the box with the caption "Baratza European Precision Burrs". If yours has the Baratza sticker on the bean hopper then you're good. Take a look at the burr - it should be 6 sided (vs. 5 sided for the old non-Baratza burr).

I agree. The updated Barista Pro has the same M2 burrs as the Encore ESP. I actually think that it is better than the ESP because the grind dial on the Barasta Pro is infinitely variable (there are no physical "clicks") and there is quite a bit of angular distance between each virtual setting (as shown on the LCD display) so you can really dial in your grind. On the ESP the "clicks" for the grind dial are quite close apart though each click on the ESP in the espresso range is said to be 20 microns apart (https://coffeegeek.com/blog/new-products/the-encore-esp-baratzas-latest-grinder/ [coffeegeek.com]).

IHMO the significance of the upgraded burrs is being overlooked by a lot of coffee snobs. The updated Barista Pro really is a fantastic value, especially if you can find one for $500. Sure the grinder isn't perfect as it suffers from a bit of retention and clumping (same issues as the Encore ESP) but these can be worked around. To get a better grinder you will be spending hundreds.

Yup, they both have the 6-sided burr. Man I got lucky! Thanks for confirming

Says who? I was able to register mine with Breville online and my free bags of coffee beans will be arriving soon.

Same, I had no issues registering mine. However, I think the reason why there are so many available at Marshalls and TJMaxx is their return policy. AFAIK, you cannot return open-box/used appliances. So maybe that's why there are so many available? I'm not going to lie, it was not easy to dial in. You really need to learn how to use it.
