I am thrilled for anyone who wants and gets this promo. Personally, and I am not alone, I cannot trust Frontier and other LCC if I really need to get somewhere, like a business trip. Or even a leisure trip where I have reserved and prepaid a hotel stay.
Multiple times in the last several years I have had cancelled flights. As far as what I know, they are only obligated to give you a refund of fare paid or get you on the next available flight that they alone have. In 2 of my experiences the next available was more than 24 hours away, so in each case I bought a full fare ticket on another carrier to get to my destination. I am sure others have had great experiences.
Do not get me wrong, if I have lots of leisure time I enjoy capturing a $19 fare! But to fly them consistently, even for free--not for me. For many others, once again---GO FOR IT
As another data point, I've taken about 15 flights this year on the pass. No flight cancellations. I think I've only ever connected once and it was fine. I plan on buying it again, especially at $299.
They have very few flights per day (1-2) so if anything happens to that flight then you're probably stranded for at least 24 hours or booking on another airline. You can't speak to a human, including the ones at the airport, without challenges or costs. They are extremely strict on baggage sizes. If your whole bag doesn't fit completely in their bag checker then there are fees charged. Their flight times aren't consistent (that same flight might be at a different time on different days). The GoWild availability is not always available or for a low price. They treat you just slightly better than their employees traveling using a similar program.
Also, I can't travel 1000 miles for $16 in 2 hours any other way. If it works it works, but, for many, it won't.
I missed the part about the CIC being included , but still not seeing the value.
They are currently running a 99% off base fare promotion , and they do so pretty frequently.
To me it looks like with a little planning , you could actually have flights booked in advance , and the only difference in cost is paying the CIC , but you actually benefit from having a confirmed reservation.

The benefit of this pass is being able to book a day in advance for a free flight if the stars align (besides the taxes you'd pay anyway). It's not worth it if you are rigid on destination but super flexible with the dates and can wait weeks because yeah you're right you can find $20-40 flights pretty easily that way.
My guess is there's still going to be times even with this pass that you get stuck having to buy a different type of ticket. It's not as good as I first thought it was either but it still may be worth it to the right person.
I haven't been able to find any flights from my airport using that discount code personally but I may be doing it wrong.

Frontier is by no means perfect but it is cheap. Works for us because it allows us to fly frequently at low cost. If you are going to fly frontier even semi regularly get their credit card, it gives you gold status which includes a free carry on, two checked bags(credit card perk), and seat selection. It's only $100 a year and comes with $100 flight credit. Gold status also gets you live priority phone support. Next year they'll add first class and gold will be eligible for free upgrades. We fly it very often on direct routes because it's so cheap. With these perks we don't have any of the normal nickel and dime hassles people complain about.
plus applicable taxes, fees, and charges - This would probably be around $599 per ticket. And baggage is not mentioned.. carrying a wallet would be $99 and so on and so forth
Seriously, I really hope this will be a success as a promo and for the airline. The more passengers on this airline, the less chaotic on the decent ones are.

Do you have to buy the ticket using the frontier CC for those benefits (free carryon, 2 checked bags and seat selection) or do you get the benefits for simply being a card holder?

It says you have to use it, I've only done it on the card so haven't tried otherwise

I, along with many here, will not be flying with Frontier again. Most of you that still fly Frontier.... just wait, it will happen to you one way or another. For me, it was when I went to check-in on a return flight. I was stopped by a Frontier attendant before the counter. They told me to bring my full-sized checked back to the gate to gate check it. I couldn't even get it through security. By the time I got back to the counter, they wouldn't take my bag, because it was too late for boarding luggage. Told me nothing they could do and to book next flight that was 2 days away at $150 additional per passenger. I had to book through another airline at my loss to get home.
This was also why I learned to never book airfare with debit. Apparently debit doesn't have the same protections as credit. I tried to dispute it with the bank and lost. Of course there is more to the story, but I am just speaking high level. I definitely got the big F from Frontier on that one.
Just wanted to get my share in bashing Frontier.... and hoping I dissuade at least one person from flying Frontier.
Look up the value of the base fare ( the only part of a ticket this covers) on 5 routes you would use this for / fly Determine how many times you would need to use it. The most expensive airfare I could find out of my home airport of Boston was $19 base fare, with $30-100 in taxes and fees. So for me needing to take 15+ flights just to break even to get to the price of the standby pass.
This was my thinking last year when it was $500 but for $300 I'm pretty sure I can get my moneys worth.
To make the most out of this deal make sure you get the Frontier credit card so you don't pay for bags or seat selections. I only do carry on to avoid any issues with checked bags. Also make sure you pay for the trip with a card that has flight delay or cancellation protection like Venture X or Sapphire reserve so you're covered if something goes wrong.

As I have Elite Diamond status from an earlier status match, I immediately also got 12,000 miles and points.
