There is almost no difference (in real world performance) between the M2 Pro and M3 Pro. There has been cases where M3 Pro was inferior when it came to memory bandwidth. M4 pro is a much more upgrade. This is still a decent machine for it's price.

This was $1200 on clearance at Costco around March but it was like finding a unicorn lol. This is much more available at the moment.

one of my local stores has an open box of this model for $1190. That said, they also have an M4 base pro model for $1300 open box. Lot of decent open box models at MC and BB

Still doesn't make any sense. M4 no pro is the same spec with better performance for $1399 and your resale value will be the same as those who bought 2 years ago. Huge mistake.

Doesn't the m2 series have the ram or hard drive bandwidth issue which they fixed in the m3 series. Doesn't the m1 pro that's comparable in specs to this, perform better in some cases?

Decent price, yes. Deal? NOPE. It's what happens when tech ages, even if still new. The MSRP is no longer the real price. Just because it's not a deal, doesn't make it a bad purchase, but it doesn't have a place on SD

Can't please anyone on these forums huh. Especially when it comes to Apple. It's an affordable MBPro at 16gb / 512, its a serious alterantive at this print point to a brand new Air which still is going to cost at least a grand-1200, have basically the same CPU, and come with a 256 drive

Also got the Costco clearance earlier this year, and I'd recommend anyone looking at this wait for the M4 air. Unless they screw up some design (it happened with the air models before, bad thermals), the M4 base chip in an air is going to match or beat this one. Given Apple's consistency in pricing, and their apparent move to baseline at 16gb RAM, there's no reason to assume you won't be able to get a MBA for this price at launch.
Worth noting as well, there are external screen limits on M1/M2 that improved with M3 (internal screen didn't count when closed) and have further improved with M4. A base M4 can have 2 external displays with the lid opened, which matches the M2 Pro. Annoying deal breaker for some, happy to see that's no longer an issue.
This is still a great laptop for $1,300 if you're comparing to anything not Apple, ignoring gaming. If you can't wait and need one today, go for it. The $200 or whatever more for an M3 isn't buying much more value in the real world.

M4 Pro will be significantly more expensive than this.

M4 will run better for your typical day-to-day tasks like browsing the web or writing basic code. However, MBPs with pro chips also include a much better GPU where the M2 Pro will outperform the M4 base model
