40W is quite a lot for a diode laser, almost CO2 laser territory, but more compact.

They are combining 8x 5W diode lasers to get to 40 watt output, so relatively cheap to produce. Curious if alignment and diode lifespan both last in these. I'm really tempted here.. Our work CO2 laser degrades with time. I just replaced a 40 watt CO2 that was getting weak after 11 years of use. $2500 for a factory exchange / rebuild. I wonder how these cheap diode models last. If the saying you get what you pay for holds, they will last about one year of routine use. Maybe less.

So what's your solution? Find a used co2 with a dead laser and pay 2500 after buying it to swap it out?

Great YouTube review on it stating how he wasn't impressed with it BTW

I have a Atomstack 20W diode laser that just died after 18 months. I was mostly running it at 20% and just started some wood cutting at 80% before it died. It didn't degrade, but just stopped firing after 4 cuts. I assume it couldn't handle being close to full power. That being said, I'm eyeing this 40W as a replacement, since even running at 40% would match the 20W at 80%. Spreading the load out over more diodes will hopefully prolong the life of the diodes. Willing to try another brand as I won't buy another Atomstack laser.
