Nothing to back this up, just a hunch. But I think they are likely unsold or unsold dealer returns to Nikon and Nikon gave B&H a sweetheart deal to take them all. The product page states "Limited 90-Day Manufacturer Warranty" and Nikon only warrants its own refurbs, not 3rd party. They are likely new in white box.

That said this is a great deal if you are looking for an entry level camera. The Z7 was originally a fairly high end model, but its auto-focus is not the best. Nikon added human-eye AF via firmware after release but it's not that accurate, esp. compared to anything out today, so if you are looking for that this isn't the camera for you. The best use for this camera is landscapes and studio work where quick focus is less essential.

The real gem of this deal is the lens. The 24-70 f4 is one of the best kit lenses Nikon's ever released. Even today I can't think of any $1200 or even $2K camera kit with a better lens. I switched from Nikon to Canon a few years ago, sold off all my Nikon gear except for this lens in case I ever bought another Nikon. (I'm not loyal to any brand, just to what works well for my needs).

Body and lens.... Seems like a good deal? I haven't followed the price on z7 refurbs.

For comparison, I got a refurb z7ii (body only) for this price awhile back.

I know that Nikon direct refurbs are excellent. I own one. But who refurbished these? First review I see says:
"I order this item as a refurbished camera an i know a refurbished item should very close to new one but maybe no original packaging but as you can see on attached images there is bad damage on leather and some dents on les also no paper works no body cape no cables no any accessories except batterie and charger. If i had plane to buy a used camera definitely buying in ebay with very lowest price was better option. I am not satisfied with this purchase at all.

I just bought a Z30 (Came in 3 days ago) direct from Nikon Refurbished. Came in a white box with everything just bubble wrapped, no inner cardboard. This anecdote isn't to discredit the quoted review, but to put perspective on what can be expected even when sold directly from Nikon.

Great deal, not the best for action but for landscapes I don't think you can beat this.

Sincere question: I have been using the D5100 since 2011. What would it be like when I jump to this? Is it going to be like night and day?

The mega pixel count will blow your mind. Plus third party lenses makers have made huge advances and now routinely release FF Auto Focus Z lens for cheaper than DX ever was.

Checkout Viltrox, TTArtisan and 7artisans.

Really depends what and how you shoot. Like if you leave everything in auto I wouldn't bother. If you know what you're doing it will be a big improvement.

The real reason to buy a Z body is to get excess to all the Z lenses, both Nikon and 3rd party.

I cave in, long time Nikonian here, started from F80, D80, D100, D7100…switched to Panasonic s5 ii, don't really like it, thought of getting the Nikon z but it was too expensive at the time, almost jumped into the previous z7 ii deal. This comes with the 24-70 F4 seals the deal

A total of 10 bad reviews out of 262. Yeah sounds like you really need to worry. You really cherry pick the info you use.

I have an old D5500 DSLR and a bunch of lenses. Thinking about this but my D5500 takes good pics and my lenses are good. Argh....
