I have really been trying to find a reason to buy something from this store in the last 2 or 3 years and every time it keeps coming up short and cheaper to buy elsewhere even after discounts. Of course they have their own brand products, and that might be the only place where it might ever make sense, but they don't measure up to the industry leaders

This can be stacked with another ongoing promo if the item you're looking at can be picked up from store instead of shipping. You'll get $10 REI bonus card for an order of $30 or larger placed for store pickup

Why do I always click the link, filter to arc'teryx only, and find only smalls remain! Wish I was small, I'd have a sweet closet!

It takes a bit of digging through lots of pages of outlet gear, but there are definitely deals to be had when sales like this pop up. I picked up a pair of joggers, a merino wool beanie and t shirt, and a fleece hoodie all cheaper than I could the same products any where else. The outlet game is always looking early to see what they actually have in your size because unless you're an outlier (XXS or XXL, size 14+ shoes, etc.) they rarely have a good selection of the more average sizes for very long.

I agree. But there are deals in the outlet area if you're looking for something specific. I've noticed this year that they've had a lot more coupon deals that they've had in the past even if you're a non-member. I do think they have a pretty good selection of outdoor gear and equipment. Maybe not the cheapest but if you're an avid outdoors person and you're looking for something, they more than likely have it.
A few months ago I ended up paying the $30 for a lifetime membership and you do get some perks in regards to coupons, free shipping, and money back for each purchase. Not sure if it's worth it but we'll see.

Have you checked out their outlet site? While not dirt cheap, they're are on par or sometimes cheaper with what REI is selling their outlet items for. Plus there are more sizes/colors available depending what you're looking for.

I like to compare it to Costco. It's not always the best deal but their return policy is worth the extra cost.

What industry leaders?

With consolidation and inflation half of the brands sold at REI are a shell of their former selves. Mountain hardware, prana, anything cascade designs, north face, the list is long.

REI brand is about equal now that the bar is so low.

Not sure about that my guy, I've gotten several Mountain hardware jackets and clothing 70% off, better performing products at lower prices then I'm getting equivalent REI stuff

Big reason I buy from REI is the return policy. You get one year no-questions-asked returns on pretty much everything. I'm comfortable spending $100 on a product that might cost $80 elsewhere for the luxury of a full year to try it out and see if it's right for me. They've also got actual sports experts in store to help cut through the noise and online opinions when shopping.

Too bad the shoes for sale aren't the gortex ones for hiking. I guess I'll have to wait for the next sale. Nice prices though.
