MSRP is $60 and this set has been frequently on sale for $25. Good price, but hardly 85% off. Hate these misleading shill posts by SD admins.

How are we supposed to learn the sport if we don't ask questions? What if someone is buying for a friend or family member, should they not ask questions to find out what is or isn't a good deal? Your first sentence was great and helpful, the rest was a Dr Jekyll moment.

I feel for the SD staff. Getting pummeled for a post like this. Sorry person

In the past I certainly was frustrated by the "promoted" posts but appreciate that those have been labeled more recently

Thank you for posting this. Seems too cheap in quality for me, but I was happy to consider the deal 🤛🏽

Hey, I didn't make up the MSRP. Wink Yes, Target [target.com] has a similar set for $59.99. I think Walmart's sale price of $15 is slick, so decided to post (not a shill post).

My local Walmart had them for $10. It's an OK purchase but they're not Franklin balls.

For a very beginner casual player is this a deal? Or would any of those random ones that go on sale on Amazon be suffice?

Yes. This a great price for a set to learn the game of Pickleball. Especially with the X-40 Franklin balls.

It's a good enough deal for starter paddles. You can find a dozen alternatives on Amazon between $20 and $40 for two to four paddle sets. Just make sure that they're NOT wood.

A step above wooden paddles, but I'd recommend a carbon fiber paddle on Temu or Alibaba. Even Amazon has a decent one for $30. As for balls, you'll want X-40, as that's the standard ball in use. They are around $3, obviously cheaper in bulk.

I think your beef is with Walmart, not me. Wink Regardless, $15 is slick IMO.

That's what it says on Walmart.com and they even have an explanation:

Quote :
Strikethrough Pricing on Walmart.com

Items on Walmart.com may display a strikethrough price in search results and on product display pages. The strikethrough price is either a Was Price, a Bundle Price, or a List Price. A Was Price is either the 90-day median price paid by customers for the item (excluding special promotions like holiday campaigns, limited time deals, rollbacks, and clearance) on walmart.com or the median price offered by Walmart or Marketplace sellers for the item on walmart.com for at least 28 out of the last 90 days (excluding special promotions like holiday campaigns, limited time deals, rollbacks, and clearance). A Bundle Price is the sum of the current individual prices offered by Walmart for the components comprising the bundle. A List Price is the manufacturer's suggested retail price for the item. Except for books, Walmart.com uses List Price as the basis for a strikethrough price if the item was purchased by Walmart.com customers at that price or offered by other retailers at or above that price in the past 90 days or 180 days for seasonal items. List Price may not be the prevailing market price for an item.
Emphasis mine. You can't really blame the SlickDeals staff or anyone who posts a deal for going off of that, otherwise they would have to spend all their time averaging the price from every retailer and someone would still come by and say, "I saw this at Ross for $9.50 once 7 years ago so $15 isn't a good deal."

MSRP has been used to manipulate consumers for decades, blame the entire retail market or the lack of government oversight if it bothers you. You clearly know the price is not an accurate reflection of the market price likely know that it the same across all retail. Perhaps since you already have information, you could take the responsibility to determine if it is a good deal based on those merits rather than going after someone for simply passing along a deal.

The question here is "is this a good deal at $15?", not "is this really and truly 85% what you'd normally buy it for?".
