The least deadhead vibe of all-time may be the gatekeeping in these comments.
some colored vinyl, not all
truth is that black vinyl can suck sometimes too

If you want to geek out on collectable copies vs player copies, the rabbit hole is much deeper than anything you're likely to learn on slickdeals

I've heard typically poor quality on color vinyls…something about the process. if you're an audiophile and buying vinyls for the audio fidelity you might want to pass. If you're buying decoratively then it's fine.

It's irresponsible to post something as broad as this.

Reviews on this particular reissue are generally very positive.

Seems like the quality is hit or miss by reading the reviews here:

FYI the only people who say "vinyls" instead of vinyl are people who don't own any records. Not to sound cross but I'd like to add my two cents about a couple other points. Colored vinyl competes evenly with black vinyl if the color is homogeneous (i.e. a blue vinyl record). When the colors are mixed, the different vinyl properties often affect sound. That said, splatter vinyl is usually decent comparably to split colored vinyl since the noise floor on splatter is slightly elevated while the latter can result in a ticking sound when the stylus goes from one vinyl formula to the other. Think of the noise floor like grease on a pizza. A cheese pizza (black or solid color) will have the least grease, a pepperoni pizza (splatter) will have more, and a half pepperoni half mushroom (split) will have the most noticeable amount. Also since colored records cost more to make (manual vs automated process, different material costs/production changes) labels often skimp on other costs (mastering/packaging/etc) and these get marketed to collectors instead of listeners. That said there are actually two audiophile versions (possibly 3 if the VMP box set gets reprinted after being delayed) of this record in print (which is remarkable), Mobile Fidelity and Rhino. Mofi has had some issues in recent years but IMO their 2LP 45RPM pressing of American Beauty is the definitive version across all formats. I just wanted to dispel any rumors for current or future dead heads, peace out man.
Edit: rereading your remark about audio fidelity it seems you meant it as more of a warning than a condemnation. I apologize if I misquoted you. As the posts above mentioned "broad" and "rabbit hole", I find that to be all too accurate. There are over 100 pressings of this album from various countries/years. I wanted to give some audiophile alternatives (granted they cost over 2 to 3 times as much). Whoever mastered the record has as much influence or more on the sound as how it was pressed. This Target version uses a Chris Bellman cut (one of the best mastering engineers) but splatter vinyl does have potential drawbacks (I probably should have stricken "slightly" when mentioning elevated noise floor). Instead of a pizza analogy think in terms of Netflix streaming. All things being equal, a Netflix stream (splatter vinyl) won't have the bit rate of a 4k Blu-ray disc (black vinyl) but one will only notice if their playback equipment and senses are acute enough. So yeah I don't mean to stop anyone from purchasing this and I've rambled on enough. If that doesn't explain the thumbs down then c'est la vie.

I own records but wouldn't be surprised if I come off as an amateur as I'm no aficionado by any means. I'd say you are coming off a bit elitist but what do I know I am some lowly idiot who says vinyls in the plural.
