LS12000, and Sony 5000 looked similar in the demo. Haven't had a chance to try NP5.
Any suggestions/recommendations?

Better off getting a lightly used jvc NZ7 for same or less $. Blacks floor, tone mapping, and contrast best in the biz

The ls12000 isn't as sharp as the sony but has contrast that rivals jvc.
At home, the jvc autocal software saves you $600-1000 for pro calibration but the panel alignment had issues.
The sony looks amazing out of the box but could stand to have some color calibration with the spyderx. The panel alignment was decent.
After putting both through their paces I was amazed at how much better to my eye the sony looked over the jvc. I read the shootout tests in Colorado and was constantly making excuses and rechecking the jvc but whether it was John wick or alien prometheus the sonys sharpness and surprisingly competitive contrast kept me going back to the sony. Even Harry potter assault on hogwarts deep black scenes looked good with finer detail. The jvc had great deep blacks and handled justice league better in contrast but only if playing both side by side.
The final straw was when I struggled with the panel alignment on the jvc. To match up the grid lines perfectly caused some pixel distortions that showed up on the picture noticeably. I had to misalign them to push those pixels off the edge but meant the panels were not perfectly aligned to give me the sharpest possible picture. The sony never had that problem and gave me the sharpest picture.
In the end, I returned both after reading about sonys panel degradation issue which hasn't been verified to be fully resolved and there hasn't been enough test times for the current stock to be considered immune. I would go with the used nz7 or used 6000es
